Which 5th wheel hitch to get?

We have a Dodge Ram 3500 diesel Cummins with an 8 foot bed are going to be purchasing a 2016 Palomino Puma 295bhss. The axel weight is 7,556 lbs. GVWR is 10,603 lbs. and Hitch weight is 1,073 lbs.

The truck had been prepped by the previous owner for installation of a fifth wheel hitch. We have been doing lots of research on which is the best hitch to get and was hoping to get a few opinions from you all.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have the Curt q 24 in my ram 3500 and love the way the jaws completely surround the pin. My 5er only weighs about the same as yours but I plan on upgrading my 5er in the future so that is why I went big.....ho big or go home...lol

Its not what I have, but I am highly impressed with the B&W companion.
Very well built and allows full use of the bed when not towing as it doesn't need rails.

I also have a Curt hitch and am very happy with it. I have no need to take the hitch out of the truck, so the bed rails are of no concern.

We have the Hensley BD3 Trailer Saver. Very well built, easy to hook up. It is a air ride hitch. Had a B W Patriot was a very good hitch, but the ride is so much better with the Hensley. You can really see it working on a rough road. The Hensley is very pricey though. Hope this helps.

How pricey? I am interested and have an email to the company in the system but won't hear back until at least tomorrow. Thx

BD3 is about $2500. When I priced it they would do free shipping but only to a freight center. Problem is the closest to me is over 50 miles away.

We paid $2200.00 + shipping $200.00. We are in Canada so it cost us about $3600 with the Canadian dollar down + border duties.

same hitch here, it is worth every penny when you see it working in the mirror.

B&W best NON air ride hitch on the market. Top quality USA Made.

Curt 5th wheel hitches are all made in China.

I have the B&W Companion hitch and love it! No more fighting to get unhitched when not on level ground. Plus it comes apart in two pieces which allows for easy one person removal. The other hitch I had was so heavy and cumbersome to remove and it took both my wife and I to remove it plus all the ibuprofen afterwards. Well worth the money spent!

What about vertical height adjustment on this BD3 hitch? I read the owners manual online and it only talks about airing the bags to about mid height on the slide pins. Does this mean that all adjustments for height have to originate with the pinbox position?

When you order the hitch they will set the height up to about 20".
