Which 5th Wheels have generators from the factory AND are under 12K UVW?

This seems impossible to find. I miss having the convenience of a generator from when I had a MH. I also don't like the hassle of having to move one from the truck to the ground risking theft etc.

Any ideas?

Mount it in the bed and have an extra cord dropped or marinco mount by the pin box. short run to the gennie and you can start tbe gennie and air conditoner an hour or so beforw arrival to start cooling it off.

I beleive Northwood does and Newmar back in the day made Kountry Stars or Mountain Aires and many were prepped. under 12k and a gennie eats up alot of CCC. plus the pin weight starts soaring

Another option is to mount a portable gen with elec start on rails in your garage. Just pull it out when you want to use it, put a slide support under it (if needed) and fire it up. The benefit is you can get the gen model you want and it's still portable to exchange or use elsewhere if needed.

Only one I know of making new ones is Northwood. Not sure about older used brands.

Most brands can be ordered with a generator or gen prep AFAIK - is just not standard for the reasons listed above. High Pin weight, high propane consumption, and most 5th wheels aren't used like Motor homes, so just not necessary. Jayco offers a "120lb Max LP" option for generators that puts a big 120lb propane tank in place of the little grill bottles for example this reason - extends the run time considerably. But again - this is on 16k GVWR units. I doubt you'll find much under 12k GVWR - its just too much weight to be lost.

I also wish I had one when I was full timing... but now that I'm just weekend camping, I am considering even removing my inverter champion from the basement. I only camp when its cool and I have plenty of solar to keep things going....just takes up space and weight.

The OP was asking for 12k UVW, not GVW, so I'd think there are some options out there. Our North Point has a UVW of 12450, albeit without a generator.

Our UVW (no genset) is 12,800#. We had generator prep from the factory, and installed an Onan 5500. I think there are plenty of options if you are just a little flexible on that UVW.

Generators are a factory option on a lot of fifth wheels. Same for gen prep. Most dealers dont add them to the stock order list because 98% of fifth buyers wont pay for it. Online shopping you should be able to find which brands your interested in offer it.

Why the focus on UVW? We mostly work with GVWR over here on the towing forum. UVW is basically meaningless. Nobody tows empty

Does something like that vibrate everything when running?

Pyropete, those Honda inverter generators are ultra quiet and virtually no vibration. In my office we use them within a few feet of audio equipment and microphones with no issues.

You do have the option of a support if needed. I have that Honda gen and it is one of the best gens for being very quite and vibration free. Have a dealer demonstrate one for you.
