The Glendinning reels are used in many yachts and are very reliable, more so than the reel units that have sliding contacts. I have yet to read a report of the Glendinning units catching fire.

^^^^^^
What Mr. D said.
No contacts to fail. All it does is pull the cord in and wind it into the barrel.

I have a travel trailer with 50 amp service. I would not be without it. My trailer will not cool that well with 1 a/c once it gets above 85 degrees. Not to mention we run 2 refrigerators, 2a/c, the water heater, and we have even run the two microwaves all at once to see if it will do it.
I would not be without 50AMP personally, even if we went to a smaller rig.

In our 5th with have one 1500 watt AC, microwave and standard RV frig and water heater. I can run on 30 A fine with either AC or microwave running, everything else is ok. I carry both 50A and 30A cables plus their extensions and multiple adapters. I'll use the 30A anytime I require 50A service, which is most of the time.
Yea the 50A cable is harder to coil, esp if its cold. But if its cold, I don't need 50A anyhow. I just don't fine the 50A cable all that hard to coil with a few tricks I use. But that's just me.

I had a 30amp Class A and had to do the “green acres” only add up to 3 routine most of the time. Now with my 5th wheel and 50amp I just run what I want. I do have two cords 25’ and 50’ so most time it’s very easy.

I went to an electrical supply and bought a 30 foot length of cold weather, flexible 6 gauge, 4 wire cord. I was able to use the female end from the old cord but had to buy the male end. It is flexible in all weather and so much easier to store. Cost me less than a hundred bucks.

Even with a TT, I would want 50 amps. 🙂

I can't imagine living on 30 amp full time....that has to stink. Its tough when we do it part time. Microwave OR AC(1/3 of the units), OR water heater....

We lived on 30 amps with a class c and class a motor home. It’s fine if the rig is designed for it. 🙂

Never heard of a fire (or other problem) with the bucket style ... got a specific link?

Who is tired of wrestling with the 50 amp cord?

The bucket style is different from what I’ve owned and appears to be a big improvement. No slip contacts. Things change. On our 5th I have an opening behind the kingpin I can feed the cord thru & coil it a little at a time.

I don't enjoy trying to store mine either. I used a large paint bucket another RV'er had recommended and used himself, but the effort to wind it so tightly into the thing made it somewhat a hassle. I finally decided since I leave it connected thru the time I close slides and hook up (battery saving) so it is a last minute thing for me anyway there had to be an easier route. Now I'm using a resin planter tub and just wind it into that and set it in the rv door before we leave out. That's a much easier storage for me as this tub won't fit in my underneath doors due to size. Still a bit of carrying and lifting but pretty simple and my water hose can be connected so as to not leak and go right on top of it as well. Tub was $12 at Costco. I just set it under the 5th wheel with a rock in it when parked, as it's only about 2 lbs empty.
