It's my understanding and I could be wrong, that you won't be able to get the HD channels on a carryout with Directv. I also heard that Directv was moving towards getting rid of SD channel service in the future, but that could just be a rumor (and you know what rumors are like...)

I have DISH now and am able to receive HD service on my X1 Pathway which is similar in design to the G2, but the X1 is powered by the coax from the reciever and G2 requires a separate power cable with the coax.

We have a G2 and love it. Much superior to the old Carryout. We do Dish network and love the HD reception.

Ku service of DirecTV (the 101 sats) is scheduled to go out of service in summer of 2019 as the sats run out of station keeping fuel. These are the old Hughes sats from when Hughes owned DirecTV. All of the newer Boeing sats operate on the Ka band (99 and 103) and have a service life of well into 2030s. So if you want HDTV or 4K from DirecTV, you have to used the Slimline dish. Highly recommend the HR-54 gennie with video bridge and C-41W clients. One wire into the coach to feed all 4 tvs with different channels and record another four. (requires a 13 channel LNB)

I dumped DTV for Dish for that reason alone. I wanted HD when camping. DTVs sats won't work with any of the portables. We're very happy with our Pathway X2 and a 211 receiver. I'd give Dish a 7-10 and DTV an 8-10 for ease of use at home. Dish gets a 10-10 for ease of use camping.
