Consumer Reports has no credibility. Hasn't for decades.

To those slamming the article...
...please read what it says was measured and reported
This list is a ranking of owner reports of service issues for 2018 models.
The list IS NOT a CR test or some Motor Trend style selection of what they like.
The article clearly says this Ram model has not even been tested by Consumer Reports.
Just keeping it real.

They aren’t really interested in trucks or SUV’s. They like sports cars. I like to read the data but realize they only review and test what they like. I’m sure as far as data goes it’s accurate.

One of my job responsibilities over the past sixteen years has been to oversee a 400 unit light truck fleet. We have bought exclusively US trucks, mostly Chevy 2500’s. When we need to go with a diesel 4x4 (or larger), that tends to be a Ford.
We buy about 100 units a year and try to rotate them out as they approach 100,000 miles. Sometimes we keep a higher mileage unit that’s in good shape to assign to a motor pool inside a customer’s plant. By keeping the mileage relatively low and making sure all the routine maintenance gets done, we have few high cost maintenance issues.
Lots of our folks to whom these vehicles are assigned would prefer a Ford or a Dodge. But we learned long ago that a mixed fleet can lead to other problems, so we stick to the Chevys.
Since we are an industrial contractor working inside a lot of union environments, we choose to stay with American brands, and that’s worked well for us. We couldn’t care less what CR says about any if these vehicles.

Didn't they slam the Corvette once for not having a back seat?
It's also usually a reader response. So unless you have a subscription you don't report any issues. Not a very fair sample IMO. But there's some validity when there's a high reader owner response.

It is the best we have for any idea on many appliances, cars and trucks. I have read Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track for years but would use Consumer Reports for just about anything I buy. Cars, tires, refrigerators, lawn mowers, etc. etc. It is the only publication that you can go to for any kind of information.
But at the end of 2018 manufacturers are not building very much junk except our RV's.
I do not like how RV's are built. They are slow to automate and the skill and care of the worker varies greatly.
Or are RV manufacturers getting better and keeping pace with quality that the auto industry has improved.

I just looked at their reliability score for the '18 Silverado 2500HD.
Their overall reliability verdict is below average.
But if you look at all the individual potential trouble spots, most are rated better with some rated good.
No bad or worst ratings.
Go figure.
Oh, and Predicted Owner Satisfaction? 4 out of 5.

Consumer Reports went off my 'trust' list back when Ralph 'Ego' Nader was in charge. For every vehicle they have whined about, I have had extremely good luck. Anyway, they are in the Japanese's back pocket anyway. Frankly, if they give a thumbs down on something, I generally buy it and have never been disappointed. Just my experience.

Over the years whenever I am thinking of buying a particular vehicle I go on that forum to read and talk to "the man that owns one". Usually you get really good input both negative and positive. JMHO

Wow - the report is VERY misleading. I will only speak to Rams, since I have and still do own many models of this truck, 1500, 2500, and 3500.
They claim that the 3500 "mirrors the recent improvements that have benefitted the 1500". The "recent improvements" in the Ram 1500 line are in the 1500's ONLY - the 2500 and 3500's haven't been redesigned like the 2019 1500's have been, and the 2018's had no significant improvements over prior years. The 2019 Ram 1500 is a significantly different Ram than earlier 1500's. and than the 2500 and 3500's.
If you go deeper into the report, they lump the 2013 to 2017 Rams in one - in particular, the 3500 they are referring to had some significant suspension changes during that period - for example, my 2013 3500 front suspension had a serious recall due to likely defects in a weld, whereas my 2016 3500 has a totally different front suspension without the same faults.
And the 1500's have a totally different suspension than the 2500 and 3500's have had, for eons! The 1500's use a rear coil spring suspension, whereas the 2500 and 3500's use rear leaf springs.
I could go on and on, but so much of what they say at least about the Ram shows they did little if any research to verify what someone said - makes me wonder about what they say about the other vehicles...

Either you trust CR about their ratings or you don't. They do love my Toyota Tundra and Highlander................so do I
If I wasn't Class C shopping it would be a Ford F-250 or F-350 for me
