19.5 inch wheel conversion

Desiel Power mag (Apr, 11) has an artical replacing factory 16" wheels on a Silverado 3500 with a direct bolt on 19.5x6.75 aluminum wheel with a load capacity of 4,300lb. A commercial 100,000 mile low profile tire LT 225/70R, load range F is used. This combination only lifts the truck 1 1/2 inch with no clearance issues in the front or rear fender wells and with no comprommise in transmission shifting or turning radius, according to the artical. Has any one made this conversion? Are you happy with the set up? Any comments on this subject would be appreciated. I'm going to need new tires before the summer, and considering going with a larger rim. Thanks in advanced!

Hi, I do not know if you know about these two other forums. You might find what you are looking for on these. Powered by Determination Diesel Bombers - Diesel Forum - Dodge Cummins, Chevy GMC Duramax, Ford Powerstroke, And All Diesel Enthusiast Community

Remember just changing tires and rims to a higher load rating (capacity) will not increase your load or towing ability for the truck. The frame, suspension, axles and brakes are still rated to tow what the manufacture has specified.

I agree, your only realistic gains will be tire mileage and appearance. The 1.5" height increase is a detriment to level 5er towing.

And that 1.5" radius also will affect towing--would be the same as going to a lower numerical axle ratio. May not be enough to make a difference, but it will change the final drive ratio.
Overall, tho, it should be a positive change and a better-looking change. I would expect the total cost to be somewhere around $3000+?

I had Vision 19.5" wheels bought from Rickson Tire and Wheels with 245 Steelmark Load Range G tires(4500lb. load rating) on my 06 Dodge 2500 single rear wheel. This is a popular modification for slide in truck camper owners who haul with single rear wheel trucks, providing much higher tire/wheel carrying capacity. I don't see the expense as being worth it for carrying a 5th wheel unless it is a monster on the pin weight and you don't want a dually. The ride is a little rougher as the sidewalls are 12, 14, and 16 ply for load range F, G and H tires. Go to Ricksons website, lots of customer photos of all kinds of trucks and tire combos.
