Hi,

I have been having major headaches with my 2001 Suburban. When I go to start it, I get nothing but silence. No click. I have all lights, horn, windows, radio. I put in a marine gel cell battery last year. It doesn't do it everytime. It sometimes won't start hot or cold. I've checked that it's in gear. Once it's started it runs great.

It's been in the shop now for 5 days. Brought it home Friday and dang thing did it later that night and 3 times Saturday. It's back in the shop again. There are no codes coming up when it's hooked up. They can't get it to duplicate the no start problem. I've left the truck at the dealer for the service manager to drive for the next couple of days. All I can hope is that it does it for him.

Any ideas that we might not have come up with? They've checked the starter/solenoid, battery cables, connections, traced the wires, checked screws. It's still doing it.

Anything-I'll pass it along.

Thanks,
Nell

Your problem might be the marine gel cell battery. It depends on if it is a standard or deep cycle battery. Deep cycle batteries are not designed to put out the amps required for starting a motor aka Cold Cranking Amps. Instead they are designed for putting out lesser currents over longer time periods. While it may have worked for awhile, these batteries will not stand up to cranking amps forever.
