If you haven't had any problems with it you probably got a good one and I would not worry about it. A diesel is like any other engine. If the thing has a ton of miles on it, it will probably burn oil. They all will burn a little over the change time of 3k to 5k miles. Maybe a qt or 2 but that is normal.

FWIW, I've had three Ford diesels (7.3 liter) since '93 and have never added any oil to any of them between oil changes. Are you saying 1 to 2 quarts of oil consumption between changes is normal for the 6.0 liter or for all? diesels?

I'm with Richard. I've never added any oil (Delo 400 15W-40) to my Cummins between changes.

My '99 Powerstroke has 189K miles, and does not burn any oil. 1 to 2 qts in 3,000 miles doesn't sound right to me. Is that really normal?

Every engine is different but both my 95 and 2000 7.3 PSDs used a quart of oil every 1000 miles when I was towing hard. They were both great reliable engines.
There is nothing wrong with that IMO.
These engines are down 2 quarts when the level gets down to "add " on the dipstick but I always keep my oil topped up when towing.
I had an 04 6.0 that I got rid of after 6 months. The level on the dipstick never moved when working that engine hard but it may have been the injectors leaking diesel into the crankcase. I had a bad 6.0 but I believe the majority of them are fine ( I hope so for Ford's sake ) It is troubling that they are comeing out with a different 6.4 Twin Turbo PSD on the 07 model, so for now I will stay with my new V10 which has been great so far and does not use any oil even when working hard.

I change oil and filter at 5K and it usually is down one quart. I have 44k miles on my 03 Durmax Chevy 2500.
