2005 Jeep GC trailer brake wiring

Need information as to how to wire in a brake controller on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I have been contemplating buying a Tekonsha P3 Electronic Trailer Brake Control Controller, I believe this is one of the better controllers.

I've looked at their website and cannot find a plug and play wiring harness, is the Jeep GC prewired for a brake controller or do you have to splice into the power & brake circuit.

Any help would be appreciated.

If your Jeep has a factory trailer hitch ( trailer tow package option ) it should have pre-wiring for the controller.
Chrysler Corp , pre-wire was a flat four connector, and if memory serves on the GC's it was, white and hidden behind the plastic " kick panel" by the drivers left foot.
I'll see if I can find a picture.

Here's a picture of the Tekonsha wiring, for Chrysler products , white end to vehicle, black end to controller.
Before I retired , I installed many of these controllers and never had any issues with them, just plug in and adjust to the trailer and you're on the road.

I'll see if I can find a picture showing the location of the connector in the Jeep.

Jim-

Here's a link to a page on etrailer that addresses the case if the Jeep is not prewired.

Also, about 3/4 to 7/8 of the way down the page at this link are several questions and answers on the 2005 Jeep GC.

Here's a link to a Web page with some pictures.

I hope these apply to your Jeep, and are helpful.

My Jeep did come with a trailer towing package and has both a 4 way and 7 way plug.

I looked on the E trailer website and they do not show a connector for a 2005 Jeep GC but if one of the other model/year crosses that would be great.

I'll try and look for the wiring harness and let you know what I find.

Thanks for the responses.

No joy on finding a wiring harness for the brake controller.

I was able to get the side kick panel off and took off both covers directly above the brake/accelerator area to give me a good view.

I did find a green heavy gauge wire tucked up there which I believe is for the brake.

I had installed a Brakemaster braking system and have already identified the brake wire for the indicator light in my motorhome so that part is easy.

I'll just have to run a black wire to the battery and a ground wire so it shouldn't be to bad to hook up.

Does my choice of the Tencosha Brake Controller seem OK, it appears it is more expensive the most but I want to be able to swap this out between 3 different vehicles. I just bought a 16' tandem 7K trailer and may need to pull it with my Jeep, GMC Suburban, and motorhome.

Jim-

Mopar makes a harness, but I don't know how it's supposed to work (I usually like to understand things before I pass along any findings- not this time, though). Two links are below.

Mark,
I already have the 4way and 7way plugs at the hitch.

I just ordered a Tekonsha 90195 P3 Electronic Trailer Brake Control Controller that comes with the standard harness, I'll just wire it in as per the instructions.

Shouldn't be too bad other then I'm stocky and will have to contort my body in unimaginable positions to wire it in.
