2007 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Gas
Hello, I have been looking around the forum and cant seem to find what I am looking for. I also hope this is in the right place. I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Gas, I am wonder how much a person could tow? Towing a 5th Wheel. I have a cougar 276RLS and I have no trouble pulling it at all, but am looking at a bigger trailer now. I feel dumb asking this, but I really have no idea and what all the appreviations are etc. any help with this would be great.

I'm looking at the owner's manuel of my 07 Sliverado. A C-2500 standard box HD (2WD), 6000 V-8, Axle ratio 4.10 is Max Trailer Weight: 10,100 lbs, GCWR is 16,000lbs. A 8100 V-8, Axle ratio 3.73 is MTW: 13,600, GCWR 20,000lbs. Same engine , Axle ratio 4.10, MTW: 15,600, GCWR 22,000 lbs. If you have the long box, the MTW increases 400 to 500lbs.
Fifth wheel or goose neck kingpin weight should be 15% to 25% of trailer weight up to 3,000 lbs max. Trailer rating limited to 12,000 lbs with weight distributing hitch.
Hope this helps.

What engine do you have? 6 liter or 8.1?

I think the 6.0 is a bit weak for anything much bigger than what you have.
The only way to know for sure is to hook up to a bigger one and pull it to see how it feels.

Thanks for the replies.
irvforfun, how much does your trailer weigh? I would like a bigger trailer, but I dont know if I want to buy a bigger truck too. Guess if I have to, I have too.

The weak link for a 6.0L gasser is the 16,000 GCWR...that's total weight of truck AND camper.
