2008 F450 Reese Underbed Mount

I am in the process of getting organized for my first 5'er which is coming in Sept.
I have already purchased a Trailer Saver BD3 and am looking to get the Reese under bed rail system installed. has anyone done this and did the install go smoothly? I need the clean install as we also have a TC that we use.

I believe in 2011 Ford had an under bed 5th wheel and goose neck mount system as an option. Starting in 2013 or so I think Ram has the same option.

My 2012 has that option. It is nifty as I can (with help) remove the Reese hitch and have a flat bed to carry stuff. Kayaks, firewood, stone, etc. The plastic plugs to cover the attachment points pop out and don't work that well but it beats having rails on top of the bed.

If someone has a retro system the is supposed to work with the Reese hitch I would recommend it as again, it is nifty if you want to carry other items. The rails do not get in your way.

The Reese Elite fifth wheel/gooseneck install kit was first available for the 2011 SuperDuty pickups. Those kits will NOT work on your 2008. However, you can still get there from here.

Install the Reese Signature Series under-bed rail kit #30073. The Signature Series 5er hitch was the predecessor of the Elite hitch, and was available way back in the early days of your 2008.

Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit for Reese Signature Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches Installation Kit RP30073

The Reese website shows that the 30073 under-bed rail kit will fit your 2008 F-450:

That's one way to skin a cat, if you want the Ford factory Reese Elite hitch. Another way is to skip the wonderful but expensive Reese Elite hitch and instead install a B&W Companion. The Companion also leaves a clean bed when the 5er hitch is removed. The under-bed parts are for a B&W TurnOver Ball gooseneck hitch, then the Companion plugs into the same place the TurnOver Ball would plug into.

Discussion with pro hitch installers as to the best way to install the under-bed rail kit on a Ford SuperDuty pickup is to first remove the bed. That sounds like a big job, but it's relatively easy and makes the remainder of the install go very easy.

If you can round up a couple of strong buddies to help lift off the bed, then it's an easy job to install the rest of the under-bed rails system. Of course you must still drill holes in the bed where the pucks of the hitch go into the under-bed rails.

Talked to the company that does the brake controller installs for our shop, turns out they are a certified reese installer and only $280 Canadian to install. That makes it a no brainer.
Have to wait until mid May as the head installer is on vacation and then a two week wait to get in. No rush as the 5er won't be here till fall.
