2014 Silverado 2500

Want to pull about 12K 5ver. My Payload is 3,115 and motor is gasser 6.0. 4.10 axle. Truck rated at 14,500lbs. Dry Weight of 5ver is 9, 265 and GVW is 12K dry pin 1,695. Anyone pulling this weight with similar truck?
I am pulling about 10K now with no problems
Thanks

I have a 2017 Sierra 2500 6.0 4.10 with 6 speed auto. My 5'er is about the same weight and it pulls fine. Loaded my camper weighs around 11,900. I added a full tank of water and couldn't really tell a difference.

You say your payload is 3115 pounds. Is that real life or advertised payload number?
Remember that 14,500 towing rating is not fifth wheel towing but pull trailer pulling.
You need to supply some real world numbers. Scaled weight loaded ready to travel? GVWR from the door sticker? RAWR from the door sticker?
Now in the real world that fiver is going to drop around around 2500 plus hitch pounds direcrly over the rear axle. Do you have that much real world capacity?
Next question, are you actually going to be happy with a motor screaming in front of you on even the slitest hill?

My motor doesn't scream and I can maintain speed up most inclines no problem. The 6.0 has a nice torque curve that gives 90% of torque at 3000 rpm. If the OP's truck is 2wd that payload is probably correct. I am slightly over payload numbers pulling mine because I have a 4wd and I am ok with that. I am not over on RAWR.

Taken from door jam sticker from factory-will send picture if would like to see it. I do believe 5th wheel tow for my truck max is 14,500. 5ver I am looking at is 11,995 GVW. I would probably would be at 11,000 towing. I always felt 10K would be max for the truck but looking for input from people towing more.

If you're happy with 10,000 then you won't notice another 1,000 lbs.

I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 6.6L Duramax diesel. Rated 5er max is 18,100 lbs. Looking at buying Forest River Blue Ridge Cabin Edition unloaded weight is 11,508lbs. Cargo capacity 2694lbs for combined weight of 14,202lbs. My concern is this, is my total combined weight to close to my max. Will this cause any undue wear and tear on my tow vehicle. Any insight is appreciated.

Your truck should pull that easily. Nothing will break but towing anything will put wear and tear on your truck vs just getting groceries.

The modern diesel engines have gobs of towing power. Just watch your pin weight.

Go ahead and do it. Im betting that once you have everything loaded for travel and drive across a set of scales you will be looking for more truck. You can make the numbers into what ever you want, but once all hooked up and your first white nuckle panic situation of scary long down hill, you will learn the truth in real world numbers.

2014 Silverado 2500

It’s funny because drivers can get permits from the govt to alter what they can tow in capacity.. seen 3500hd diesel tow 35k with a permit.. just set the truck up. If you feel it’s to much later add bags or change rear springs to accommodate.. whit knuckle real numbers yada yada yada .. trailer has brakes I would assume? So not sure where all the stress would be for a white knuckle experience? Just take it easy and enjoy the ride. Use the trans tow/haul and you will be surprised what you can do going down hill..

He only wants to pull a 14,000lb loaded 5th wheel. Empty is under 12,000lbs. I doubt the OP will need to make any changes to the truck. The 2016 Duramax Chevy is s very nice powerful truck.
