I bought a new 2015 Ram 2500 CTD last fall but have not had the chance to drive it much this winter. This week I had a meeting and finally was able to put 1400 km (875 miles) round trip on the clock. I got an amazing 10.9 l/100 km (25.6 miles/usg or 30.7 miles/imp. gallon) WOW!

Was that towing your trailer? Be sure you hand calculate the MPG as the EVIC can be off some. My EVIC reads 1-2 MPG high all the time.

Do not be surprised when you hand calculated the fuel mileage and see that the mileage display is inaccurate by 2 to 3 MPG!

My lie-o-meter was off by 4 MPG until I updated the truck with a Smarty, I am now only 1 to 2 miles off actual fuel usage. My best mileage at highway speed without towing has been 19 MPG's in 95,000 miles. I hand calculate at every fill-up on all of my vehicles.

No, that was bob tailing! That would be REALLY incredible if I was towing. The calculated mileage was 11.41l/100 (26.8 mpg us), so just over 1 mpg off.

EDIT: Hmm, the converter app I am using is skewed! 10.9l/100 is 21.6 m/usg or 25.9 /imp gallon. 11.41 is 20.6/usg or 24.7/imp.g. Sorry folks, but still pretty good, even running empty.

I can get as much as 24 MPG empty (hand calculated). That is just me, the dog and her water, and damn few other things, at 55 MPH max, which is rare.

Towing I get around 12, at around 65 MPH.

I'm not complaining.

Bob tail on the highway is not going to happen here. I still get close to 20 at 75.

What rear end gears? My 2014 with 3.42's doesn't get that high of mileage.

Yes, 3.42's. Engine was turning about 1500 rpm at 110kph (68mph).

Wow... you are really fortunate.. at 70 mph I do 18 MPG , maybe 20 for short periods.

Is your truck 2wd? Just curious, of course my truck is alot heavier being a dually as well.

Wonder if the mileage get's better after a few miles like it used to years ago?

A little concerned about payload though. I did a weight while on the drive to Saskatoon and front end was 2300 kgs (5060 lbs), GAWRF is 6000 lbs and rear weighed 1670 kgs (3674 lbs) with a GAWRR of 6500 lbs. So just going by rear weight I should be fine, but the truck GCWR is only 9900 lbs, therefore all I can haul for payload is 1166 lbs! My fifth has a GVWR of about 10,500 lbs, so I am thinking my payload will be about 2000 lbs. They shouldn't even be selling 3/4 tonne diesels!

This is exactly why I traded off my 3/4 ton (which I loved!) for the dually... 3/4 ton diesel's have very little payload capacity.

The gas version has a 1000 lb greater payload, but the diesel can power a lot more down the road but is heavy.

Consider this----Your frame, tires, wheels, axles, ETC are all the same as a 3500 1 ton SRW truck unless you changed something. It's just a difference in rear spring rate. You can install some Air Lift bags and call it a 3500. If you have the auto level suspension the air bags won't fit. I'd imagine you could build different brackets to move them outboard just a smidge. The 2500 uses coil springs and the 3500 uses leafs. The axles are the same just different stuff welded to them for the coils or leafs.

Look at the cargo capacity of a 3500 SRW model like yours. Just saying.

What does the tag in your door frame say? Most I have looked at are in the 1700-1900 lbs range depending on model and options.

Anything over 20 MPG's in a truck like that is pretty awesome in my book. I do recommend hand calculating next time to verify the accuracy your on board computer. They aren't called lie-o-meters for no reason, and are often inaccurate to the high side.
