2017 Ford SD

The 2017 SD was released today. Lots of neat stuff besides just the looks and aluminum changeover. Trailer TPMS and Backup Cam. Powerfolding steps. 6 cameras. More HP/TQ. (No numbers yet.) Here is a link to all the photos. https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...uper-duty.html

More HP and Torque...holy cow.
I thought 400/800 was a lot in 2012. Those trucks are too pretty to drive.

Ram is now at 900 ft/lb so if they are gonna be best in class it has to have more.

Yeah I should have mentioned the 2016 ram will be 900. The current 2015 model is 865. Should have made myself clear. Max tow rating on 2016 up to 31,250 or something close to that.

Chad

Right Chad, but in the reveal, Ford said they would be class leading when the truck hits the dealer lots. So, that would mean more than 900 for Ford.

18 years on the same platform has finally come to an end! Now they should be able to get SAE ratings to match their towing claims.

Looks like a winner, great to have competition.

I heard that Ford has cornered the Aluminum market and now other manufacturers are having trouble getting it for their hoods.

I am not so sure if mass produced Aluminum bodied trucks is such a good idea.

But I can see it now...50 years from now an old Ford truck towing an old Air Stream trailer.

The only problem with aluminum is it will corrode. It won't rust like steel but if you get a chip in the paint and live in the salt belt, the paint around the chip will slowly start to bubble. Then the bubbling spreads. On my wife's Durango there was a void in the body sealant under the aluminum hood that let in salt. It spread to the top and the hood had to be repainted. So, it's not an end all solution in that dept. Ford was going for weight savings more than panel longevity.
