2019 Chevy 1500 and GMC Sierra are here!!!

I am reading that the redesigned GM half ton trucks have been shipped starting a few weeks ago and are trickling onto dealer lots.

I am reading that the new truck with a longer wheelbase, bigger wider bed, new stiffer frame is also 450 lbs lighter.
That will make the truck feel more powerful. Also read GM added a big dose of refinement. I may go today to see if one is in my area. I want to compare the cargo capacity vs the 2018 model.

Anyone else see the 2019 GM trucks? If so, what do you think?

Title should read new trucks are HERE. Not HEAR....ugh

My 2012 diesel dually was stickered at 69k and I paid 59k April 2012.

The new trucks are better than the old 2012 models.

I am thinking all the new 1/2 ton trucks are going to be more capable as will all the other trucks.

My local Chevy dealer does not have any 2019 models in stock yet but on order.

I will be in a bigger city the next 3 weeks. I hope to see a new 2019 Chevy 1500.

I have scoured the web for info on them and spent a lot of time doing builds to see what one would cost me to trade for my 2017 sierra. you can still only get 3.42 gears in the 1500's and the 8 speed with 4.56 first gear still doesnt provide the best numbers for towing. the 5.3 isnt anymore powerfull and while the lighter wt. helps with payload, I am wanting something that will actually pull better. I think I am going with the new ram 1500 for the 40 more hp 5.7hemi and the 3.92 rear end and 4.71 first gear..have studied the fords but every similar work up to what I have now is 4-5000 more dollars..I thought about a 2500 but they are under powered and I cant afford the cost of dsl. just my input

runamuck - all good points. The Ram is a sweet truck with the powerful 5.7 hemi. I looked long and hard at that truck and really liked the idea of air suspension. The 2019 Ram is extra sweet.

I test drove two 3/4 ton gas trucks that I did not think were underpowered. They were the Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi and the 2017 F-250 6.2. I bought the Ford.

But you know the Ford 3.5 eco-boost is probably the best gasoline engine for towing. Go to YouTube and watch the tack sit at 2,200 rpm as it tows.

The 2018 Chevy 5.3 that I test drove was smooth and quiet but underpowered compared to the Ram and the Ford. The 2019 is 450lbs. lighter which should make the 5.3 feel less underpowered.

I want to see the 2019 it along with the 2018 to check the door stickers to see how much more capable the 2019 has become.

Looks wise, it seems the Ram is getting better looking and the Fords and Chevy/GMCs are getting uglier.

runamuck - in 2017 Ford switched the F-250/350/450 to aluminum body. They also tweaked the 6.2 for a bit more power.
The combination of the two helped the truck from underpowered to adequate power.

But the Ram 2500 6.4 hemi drove about the same as the Ford.

If you go to YouTube 'Big Truck Big RV' you can see a F-250 6.2 being driven and the comments.

There was a big improvement in the driving dynamics of the 2017 redesigned truck.

You do not think you can wait for the 2020 model year trucks?

we want to drag our trailer around wyoming and colorado and that's a whole nuther year to put off doing that. I wouldnt trade at all if it wasnt for my gmc 1500 is mountain road challenged. it is a great truck otherwise and I dont foresee gm adding anything between the high mileage 1500's and the dsl. high dollar rigs in the next few years

I agree the new 2019 Chevy 1500 will not really improve enough for high elevation mountain towing. I tested the 2018 near sea level and thought it was lacking power. I can not imagine the truck at 5,000 - 7,000 feet elevation.

From things that I have read for high elevation mountain driving you should have a turbo engine. Either gas or diesel as they are not affected with as much power loss.

Ironic, when you need the most power you have the least power for those mountain passes.

I believe after the 1st of the year, Chevy/GMC will have a 5 cylinder inline Duramax diesel available for the 1/2 ton trucks.

May want to check on that.
