Smile 2019 RAM 3500 Air Suspension

Just bought a 2019 RAM CC CTD SRW with the factory air suspension. My understanding is that it is possible to lower the bed to make it easier to load and hitch up. Can anyone confirm this functionality? I have not figured out how to make the bed lower, any help would be appreciated!

If it’s like my 1500 there’s a toggle switch under the gps screen with three lights showing. Push the toggle down twice and it’ll lower the truck as far as it will go. Push it back up twice to return to ride height.

There is a switch for Normal Ride Height and Alternate Ride Height. This changes the bed height by an inch when towing. I am looking for several inches to make hitching easier. Thanks for the reply!

I would check out Turbo Diesel Register.COM, several members have this feature and have discussed the air ride systems on their trucks. Here is a link to the site: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/
I would check under 4th generation and the Towing and Hauling site, for information on the air ride system.

If the trailer has a power jack I do not think I would worry about adjusting the truck. Air Suspension is a great option to level the truck so it does not sag. I think it will do that automatically to level the truck. Not sure if it is intended to be used to hook up. Maybe if the trailer jack is manual.

My bet is that you'll find that is not a stock ability of that system. The designers are trying to idiot-proof how these things behave when you are driving. Lowering it further than the Alternate Ride Height (towing) would create headlight alignment issues at the very least.

My wife's Lexus GX470 has a 3 position switch. The lowest is meant to aid in getting into and out of the vehicle. The highest is for slow speed off-roading and the middle is for normal travel. Their system automatically reverts to the normal height whenever the speed is above their set threshold (I believe 15MPH).

Best regards,
Chris

If it will lower to hook this is a great way of going about hooking up. Big rigs function the same way. Dump the bags, back under the trailer, lock your 5th wheel and hook up your glad hands/lights, and reinflate. It makes hooking up easy peasy.

Unless they have improved it above what my 2015, 3500 RAM SRW has you only have the alt height option. More often than not if I have an empty bed it won't even lower the full inch when I first select the alt position and I get an error. The springs are stiff enough I can't imagine it going down very far without some weight in the bed. On the plus side, it won't sag even if you go 1500 pounds or so over rated cargo weight. It initially sags but climbs right back up. As for the tires, when overloaded they show it, as I found out once while picking up a load of top soil that was wet, and much heavier than anticipated.

I can answer your question: The Alt Ride Height feature can NOT be activated without the trailer being hitched up. In other words you need to have weight in the bed for the system to activate and lower. You also can not change the system setting while in drive or reverse, you must be in Park. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for your help! Looks like the system is strictly for load leveling.

As a matter of fact, no, no manual. Truck did not come with one. Dealer is trying to locate one for me.

You should be able to get a digital copy of the owner's manual here

Just put the truck into jack mode or transport mode via the 8” screen.
It’ll lower and stay there until you move it and then it’ll reset automatically to normal ride height.
At least that’s what my ‘18 3500 SRW does....

Cheers.
