Recently I 'upgraded' from a f150 5.4 to a f250 6.0 diesel. Well less then 84 hours after driving the new truck off the dealers lot, it road back on a rollback. I read the trouble with the 6.0 powerstroke, but I talked to a handful of owners that praised their rides. I don't know if the dealer is aware of it yet but they have some repair work in their near future. The disappointing part is the truck pulled the camper like a dream!

Sorry about your experience with the 6.0L. Personally, I would never own one. Even though they made improvements in the last two years, they still had a lot of problems.

I had a 2004 f250 w/6.0... Had to lemon law it. It would die on acceleration i.e. freeway
entrance. That said i took an 06 f250 and it lost a turbo PDQ..Have 75k on it now and has not even coughed. Some are crap, some not.

I'm a 6.0 owner. No "oh no" here, and I'm pushing 130,000 miles on it, and I tow the fiver or a utility trailer regularly. As you also reported, the truck tows trailers like a dream, sometimes I have to look to make sure the trailer is back there. Towing the fiver I get 10-12 mpg, which I consider to be good fuel economy for a three and a half ton truck towing a five ton fifth-wheel trailer.
I would be interested to know just what happened to your truck. The ONLY problem that has ever left me stranded was a bad battery. Replacing the battery fixed the problem.
Some advice for you...don't put a tuner on and don't "chip" the truck. Ford already did that from the factory. If the batteries go bad, you'll have a low voltage problem which will give you problems with the fuel injector control module (FICM) which could stall your truck. Having low oil level will stall your truck, as the injectors use engine oil to operate. Keep your fuel and oil filters changed and your oil changed per the manufacturer's specifications, and if your truck doesn't yet have a coolant filter installed, install one.
Chances are the problem you have with your truck is simple and easily remedied. Keep us posted.

I am looking forward to hearing the dealers plans to resolve all this. Demand 1- a loaner vehicle
Demand 2- every inch of the vehicle will be inspected to see what's next
Demand 3- something of monetary value to reimburse towing expenses (ft and truck)
If they don't do the right thing, I'm thinking they will give me a steal on a durimax on their lot.

I had a 7.3L, which at the time everyone was saying it was the crappiest motor Ford ever had. I then had 2 6.0's; also a motor that many owners said were the crappiest motor Ford ever made. However, now owners of the 7.3L were saying it was the best.
Personally I had no problems with any of the three. For me, the stock motor had plenty of power so I never added a chip or tuner. Not blaming them for the problems, just saying mine were always pure stock. I have read were many people did have problems with both motors mentioned above. i am not condemning any of their stories. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones.
I currently have the 6.4 and the only issue is having the radiator replaced (knock on wood). I am now waiting for my 2012 6.7 to come in.

You need to bullet proof it.
1- If you can delete the EGR cooler.
2-Drain the ford gold coolant, replace with CAT ELC and put on a coolant filter. The Ford gold coolant plugs up the oil cooler. It over heats and puts oil into the water which blows the motor.
3- Get a ScanGauge II to monitor your oil, water and trans temps.
4- ALWAYS use Motorcraft filters. The others won't filter all your oil.
I also use the superchips tuner which I put a heavy tow mod on mine which gives me 120 more Ft# of torque and 48 more HP and won't hurt the truck.
I have 185k on mine and it runs like new. I also get 10 - 11 mpg towing my 15,700 # 5th wheel.
Every one of the different trucks have their share of problems but with the 6.0 you can fix the problems before they happen for under $1000 and have one of the best towing and stable trucks out there.

Same here. They replaced the 6.0 with the 6.4, and after many problems with it, came out with the 6.7, I think the jury is still out on the latter. I fail to understand why they just don't fix the old one rather than make a new one which generates a boat load of new problems.

Because the federal government creates standards that engines can't meet, meaning a new engine must be developed and tested. That's why the 6.0 replaced the 7.3, the 6.4 replaced the 6.0, and the 6.7 replaced the 6.4. It was EPA requirements, not getting rid of "bad" engines, that led to engines being replaced three and four years into their production run.

In all honesty, not ALL diesel engines have been completely and totally replaced with fresh-sheet-of-paper designs every 3 or 4 years. One has been around since the early 80s with evolutionary changes as required to meet EPA standards, but to avoid a brand war, we won't mention which one.

I have a Ford F150 5.4 and am going on my maiden trip Memorial Day weekend. When you say you "upgraded", what problems did you encounter with the F150 if you don't mind my asking?
I guess I just want to make sure that the 5.4 is up to the task of pulling a 4,500 lb. trailer.
