I've read almost every thread about aftermarket fuel tanks. There of course Transferflow, expensive and the best known. There are several more companies making and selling them: aftermarket diesel fuel tanks - Dogpile Web Search
giving us a much wider selection to evaluate for our truck, to extend our driving range and fuel-up when we find a lower fuel price.

Auxiliary fuel tanks are very attractive but require some extra consideration if you're hauling a fifth wheel with your truck. The most advantageous ones have a 50/60 gallon capacity so you must do some math on your trucks load before seriously considering installing one. Most fifth wheel haulers cannot handle an extra 450/550 extra pounds in their truck bed.

I have one of the RDS 60gal toolbox/tanks from Northern Tool. After lots of studying and measuring, it was one that would fit under my Retrax cover. It has worked flawlessly on my previous F350 and now in my F450. The 'automatic' gravity feed works as it is supposed to--no overflows and such. It is great to be able to use gasbuddy.com to look ahead and see where the lowest price diesel should be ahead on my trips, and allows me to fill up many times without the trailer in tow for ease in/out of fuel stops. The feed to the truck tank is slow enough that I ususally burn more fuel towing than is coming in--then it just catches up overnight. Next morning--another full truck tank. But even with the tank, getting 7-8mpg still causes me to be looking for a fuel stop at around 500-600 miles. 60 gal fuel = 430 lbs---but, it gets lighter as I go, right?

That is what I'm wanting too. It has to fit under my soft cover. I'd be happy with an extra 50-60 gallons.

Highly recommend the RDS brand tank. I have the 50gal with tool box. Good welds, baffled and still looks great after 8 years of usage. I bought before they had the install kit for gravity feed so made my own, but the system is super. No extra pumps, wires or electric valves to mess up and leave you stranded in the desert with no fuel and no siphon to get it out of the tank like another "unmentioned" brand did to me. Love the freedom of filling when I want, not when I "have" to.

The AeroTanks-we specialize in auxiliary fuel tanks. , at 62G capacity particularly interests me because it is a replacement for my OEM 35G fuel tank. This adds 200#
+ additional tank weight, when full, to my truck, and extends my range from 300 miles to nearly 600 miles. I will have nothing in the bed to work around or maintain.

Hi Ray, I have purchased mu fuel tank on ebay last month and i think they offers cheaper prices that the one they offer on the autoshops. I will try to relocate the site i have visited i will give it to you.

My '98 Dodge 4x4 dually had the Transfer Flow 50 gallon tool box/tank installed when I bought it. Never had a problem, I love it.

Sure is nice to be able to pick your fuel stops.

I have had two RDS tanks. Both gravity fed the main tank. No added pumps to maintain and fits under tonneau cover. I did install an electronic valve, so when I get about a quarter in my main tank, I flip the switch and keep on trucking. TransferFlow tried to tell me gravity filling was illegal. Do your own investigation. I found gravity filling your main tank IS LEGAL.
