Any of the newer TVs have a keyless ignition?

Maybe that's not the right term. What I mean is: You walk up to the truck with a coded chip in a fob in your pocket, no button to push or key, and the doors unlock. You get in and push the ignition push button and drive off. When you walk away from the car the doors lock. I thought I saw the button in a pic of an F350 interior but not sure if Dodge or Chevy has it.

My RAM is keyless. When locked I just touch the door handle and it unlocks. Hop in and push the start button and off we go. To lock there is a button on the door handle. Push it and the truck locks.

My previous 2014 ram 2500 had it, loved it tremendously. My 2016 chevy 2500 does not and is not available on chevy trucks. Almost a deal breaker on the Chevy for me. Local ram dealer was the deal breaker and why I bought the Chevy.

I believe the technology was inherited from Mercedes when they owned Chrysler.

I wonder how easy these keyless systems are to hack? There was a news item earlier this week that had video of a thief with a laptop getting into a jeep and driving away a few minutes later. Gives me pause.

Several cities have been recovering stolen cars with no visible signs of forced entry. They have now determined that there are frequency grabbers picking up the signal between the key fob and ignition. The thieves can now start your vehicle and drive off at leisure. It's similar to the old garage door openers that thieves use to hijack. Also on ABQ news the other day they reported the most stolen vehicle in ABQ is now the F350. 18 last month, usually at Lowes, HD or Walmart. The lock is apparently easy to smash. I'm looking at ignition modules to stop that now.

Probably because the 350 is a very desirable truck.

Theft is what insurance is for. The instances of these trucks being stolen are usually very local or regional, occur for a while, then the ring gets busted, and someone else has to acquire the technology and knowledge to around the radio key fob security again.

TLDR: Don't worry about it much, if at all.

I don't worry about it much but I do if our 5th wheel is hooked up (we're full time) & our dogs are inside.

Of course you do, but still what are the odds? Is your concern based on facts, or just fear?

I full time, I have a dog, and with the measures I've taken to prevent theft the truck or the trailer is more likely to be broken into or burn down than to be stolen.

In Texas, any 4x4 dually is prime for theft, especially in the southern or western areas. Most trucks are either lost forever or found burned out in remote desert areas.

Having the keyless entry and start is nice, though. Our current hauler is to0 old to have it but it does have some other tricks.

keyless is nice but imo the pushbutton is a risk. have you tried to power off your vehicle while in drive?
it's much easier and tempting to hit the button while in drive and turn off the engine than it is to turn and remove a key.

Just a thought.
