CA Trailer License re-Register Question
On my renewal form from the CA DMV, they specifically note in the section where they remind you that a trailer must be registered regardless of whether or not it is used, occupied, or moved over the highway, that the "trailer is located at: SAME AS MAILING ADDRESS". And, they note below elsewhere that "If the location of your trailer has changed, you must complete the address box on the lower part of the form and renew...BY MAIL" and there's a box on the portion you send in noting "if trailer is kept at another address, please complete".
My trailer can be located pretty much anywhere, and there is no guarantee that it will be located at the same location six months from now that it is located at now. I do keep my insurance company informed if I keep it somewhere for a period that (subjectively) is longer than one might if traveling around the country, but have never felt compelled to post the DMV on the location as it changes.
Does anyone know why this is from their dealings with CA DMV? Do all you CA residents tell the DMV when your trailer is not at home, and what do you use as the time standard for listing a different address than your home if you have the trailer in various places over the year (I certainly am not going to supply them with a list of thirty addresses where the trailer might be, although that might cure them of their desire to know! LOL)
