Chev Silverado Receiver (hitch)
Good Day
I was at an RV show in Toronto On.....At the Cam Am display , I attended a towing/hitch presentation on towing issues and problems..
They showed pic's of the Chev receiver (hitch) and many have been found to be cracking where the round bar connects to the side supports..
They also showed the repair required to fix this problem, which are angle supports from the center of the receiver across to the side supports.
Has anyone heard of this problem.....
I don't recall him saying the model year of the trucks......

Mine is a GMC but is probably the same as a Chevy; it looks fine.

This is a very common and well known issue with all GM products starting in about 2000 to present. Most people recommend replacing the factory junk with something better built.

I would think GM should have a recall if this is a known problem , having a trailer break away.... WOW !!
By the time a crack in the receiver is visable to the naked eye , the thing would be close to failure........Thanks for the replies.

i beg to differ with donn 128 i have owned a 02 and now own a 06 snowbird outside every year from alaska in the wintertime and pull a trailer that weighs between 11,000 and 11,500 depending on how it is loaded. i take three and and a half days from north pole alaska to clarkston washington so i am not wasting any time and have had no problems with hitch. maybe some do but not all check and see if you have a problem before posting. if it is under warrenty i would beleive gm will make any problems good.

Ive been to this kind of scenario before and most people recommend replacing the factory junk with something better built.

Quite true. This was a hot topic on some websites several years ago. This thread is one example.

Kind of but not on a chevy.. and it is not a round bar.
On my Workhorse custom chassis the squar bar that crosses frame rail to frame rail, the brackets at the end cracked and broke.. Dropping the hitch and my towed.. Thankfully the US-Gear brake system worked as advertised so no secondary damage. (ok, one bicycle wheel, 80 bucks)
The weld shop that rebuilt the brackets (Simpson & Sons Services) did a fantastic job.
