They did make a 2500 version.....
That would make a good TV for a TT as it came with a big gas motor and 4.11s as options.

My friend tows a 29ft Prowler TT by Heartland with his.
He seam to be satisfied, and not complaining. A neighbor has a 7000 lbs TT towed with his Avalanche.

Avalanches were not designed to tow 5th wheels. When you turn the corner, you have a good chance of hitting the wings on the, just not allot of room there.

I had an Avalanche 2500 (3/4 ton) which had the 8.1L (496 cubic inch) engine and 4L85e transmission. I towed my 10k racecar trailer all over creation with that truck and it was the best bumper-tow truck I have ever owned. It had 3.73 gears in it and delivered around 8.5 mpg while towing if kept at 65 mph or below.
I did look into a sliding hitch to allow it to tow a fifth wheel but there were no manufacturers who made them at the time.. Yes the roof sails would be a problem when turning..

Towed with an 05 Av 1500 for 6 years two different TTs, biggest was about 4500lbs dry, (when DW was done loading stuff it was probably over to 5K). Went over the Rockies and back several times. Not the fastest on the long grades but always made it. Had 100k on it mostly towing with no major problems. I'd look for a later model with the 6 speed tranny. There is an AV site with a towing forum to get more opinions.

I use one for towing a Coachman catalina 24FBS and I like it, I've also towed my race car in the winter with it grossing just over 12500lbs, other than it needs more gears IE a 6 speed auto it travels great. If they still made them I would definately buy another as a TV.
PS it's just turning over 210000 kilometers and still going strong
