Confused with fifth wheel weights

I have a 2015 F350 2wd dually cc
I weighed it on a CAT scale and the front axle weight was 4680, rear axle 3940, total 8620. I then weighed the entire rig, front axle 4680, rear axle 7260, trailer axle 11680, total 23620. Does the front axle weight not increase with a fifth wheel? Do I need to weigh each axle on the trailer separately or is a total weight for the pair sufficient? Am I correct in calculating the pin weight at 3320?

Pin Weight.....
Weight carried by trucks rear axle (plus any weight added to front axle.....OR removed from front axle)

Front axle weight can change depending on how the 5th wheel hitch is set up
Directly over the trucks rear axle.......typically just the weight on rear axle
Forward of rear axle center line........can add weight to front axle
Rearward of rear axle center line......can remove weight from front axle

Your front axle weight didn't change so the difference in rear axle weights are used to figure 5vr pin weight

Rear axle WITH 5th wheel hitched..........7620
Rear axle W/O 5th wheel hitched...........3940
Difference of ......................................3680 (that is the 5th wheel pin weight)

5th wheel axleS......................11680
Pin weight...............................3680
Total 5th wheel weight............15360 (you would need to compare to GVWR on Data Plate front drivers side of 5vr)

4680 + 3940 = 8620 -----truck total w/o trailer
4680 + 7620 = 12300 ---truck total with trailer hitched
4680 + 7620 + 11680 = 23980 --truck/trailer combo

Seriously?! Old-Biscuit beat me to it again? I guess I should be used to it by now. He's freakishly good at that. I don't know how he does it.

Also, his post answers your question well. I didn't bother to check the math, but I'm 99% certain it's correct. It looks like your hitch is sitting directly over the rear axle, so don't worry about the front not changing. That's perfectly fine.

Thanks, I reversed the rear axle number, it's actually 7260 but I understand the math.

I had a 2012 F-450 with the factory 5th wheel prep package with the Reese Elite hitch made to fit the puck system. I looked for my old weight sheet but did not find it. I believe my front axle weight went up a little. Maybe 200lbs.

Your numbers look right. My truck weighed 300 lbs more than your truck with the hitch and tools and 200lbs of me in the truck.

I am thinking the cargo / occupant capacity of your truck is around 4,800lbs so as long as you do not go crazy with other stuff you are ok on your weights.

Luckily it's 5886, it's the 14k payload package.

That is a great cargo capacity. I was only off by 1,086 lbs. I did not think those over 5,000lb cargo capacity from Ford dually were until the redesigned 2017 model year.

You are then well within that trucks capacity.

Well looking at you 5er, what would worry me is that the payload of only 1,902# on a 43' 5er. I have a 32' 5er and easily got over 2,000# of stuff in the rig.
