We have a large new TT. But the towing is not as smooth as we'd like even with weight distribution and sway bars. We know about pullrite but are really more interested in connecting direct to a 5er hitch for the added stability and control. Anyone know an easy way to do this? Or someplace that does the harder way of converting the tongue?
Thanks, david and kelly

I honestly do not know of a practical way to convert a TT into a 5er.

What kind of trailer and tow vehicle are you running? Also, they type hitch and shocks on the trailer and tow vehicle?

Oh, welcome to IRV2. Glad you found us.

I do not know of an easy way to convert a tt to a fifth wheel. Sounds like alot of welding would be involved and very expensive. Have you considered an advanced towing system like the Pullrite or the Hensley arrow? They are both supposed to be very good.

I recently saw a conversion. The owner had removed the axles, springs and tow hitch and sat his travel trailer on a goose neck flat bed trailer. He had closed in the TT wheel wells to look good. His goose neck trailer was long enough to carry a jeep on the rear of the TT.

My guess is the investment and engineering involved to do the conversion right would more than justify trading in on a new 5th wheel. As said before, consider one of the better hitch systems if you are set on keeping the trailer.

I'm with Rick. By the time such a conversion was done, one would be better off to sell the TT and buy a 5th wheel - or trade with someone who has a 5th wheel and now wants to carry an ATV in the back of his truck.

I saw one years ago that a man in East Texas had made and put on his 30 foot long Airstream. It looked good and did a good job. Yes he was a welder and knew how to make it all work.
