Hi all, my first post. I have a 2007 Megacab 3500, 6-spd auto. using 20% pin weight as an estimate, all of the fivers I'm looking at are gonna have 2500+ lbs of pin weight when their loaded up to travel. There's been previous discussion about the limited carrying capacity of this rig and I'd like to know what others might be pulling with this same rig and did you do anything like airbags, heavier tires/wheels, etc.

First of all, welcome to iRV2.com. We're glad you've joined us.
In addition to the limited GVWR, the short bed of the Megacab will present its own challenges in a 5th wheel application.

Hi branson4020 and welcome to iRV2. Being a motorhomer I can't provide any incite to your question but I'm sure you'll get plenty of good input before long.

Welcome to iRV2.
Yep, when Dodge stretched the cab, they shrunk the load capacity. You can add air bags and they just prop up the under rated rear end. Heavier tires, as long as the rims will handle the increased tire pressure.
And another problem is the short bed and a 5er.

We have an 2007 Mega cab dually pulling a 40' toyhauler with about 2500 lbs on our hitch. We use the superglide hitch (very happy with) we pulled this same trailer with a dodge 2500 the only adjustment we made for the 2500 was we put airbags on the truck to help with the load when we purchased our new mega cab we felt the air bags were not necessary due to the dually. This truck pulls our trailer with no problem our trailer when loaded completely is about 16,000lbs.
Good luck

branson4020, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. A superglide slider 5th wheel hitch may be the only hitch to give you good turning clearances. Good luck in your research and most of all enjoy the website.
