The 2019 Chevy 1500 will have an improved towing structure. Improved frame (stiffer) and increase to wheelbase will help. Also the Chevy will have the same 10 speed as the Ford. It should be a really cool truck.

Several people report that the 3.5 eco-boost is a towing beast. That it does not run at high RPM's when towing up a grade. Runs typically 2,000 - 3,000 RPM.

Both Chevy and Ford offer locking.

Ford offers key pad entry which is kinda big deal as I go to the beach 4 - 7 times a week in the summer. I can leave the key fob in the truck and unlock the door eith the pad numbers.
the new 2019 ram 1500 now has rear locker as an option.

I'm pulling 8300 lbs of trailer with my ram 1500 8speed on level ground I have only downshifted one gear while fighting a head wind gust stayed in 8 gear for my 200 mile trip and averaged 10 mpg and no noise and it is not rough riding like the ford or gm half tons ,have driven all three the ram was the most comfortable.

I had an oval-shaped cylinder in one of my Mitsu Evo's. You know, they almost denied the warranty claim at 4000 miles. LOL

I would think that if I traded for the 3.5 ecoboost that is supposed to be an effortless tow machine that it would be more miserly on fuel..I am thinking of trading trucks because I may go larger on a new trailer at some point and I am getting overloaded trying to compare numbers and owner experiences in making my decision..I have almost ruled out 2500's because I dont want to be saddled with 8-9 mpg and a screaming motor when towing..maybe just keep the 1500 that gets better mileage when towing and do some tuning and suspension upgrades..or trade for one of the new 1500's with the 8 speed tranny
My Dad's 2014 Platinum ecoboost gets 16 MPG empty. I wonder how some of these guys are getting those higher numbers while towing. I wouldn't believe it, personally. Just ford fans being ford fans, I'd say.

I think the 10 speed transmission helps mileage. That came out in the eco-boost in the 2017 model year. Couple that with a hypermiler and I guess you can get better mileage than average.

I test drove a 2018 3.5 Eco-Boost XLT 2 wheel drive that had a highway epa of 25mpg. I was surprised by 25 mpg highway.

I have '14 Ford XLT 3.5 ecoboost with 86,000 miles so far. I average between 18 and 19 mpg ("summer gas" since they change it in Iowa depending on season) without my camper and in the 9.5-10.5 range with my camper hooked up. Zero issues but I also take care of it how it should be and I see no reason it shouldn't last several more years and well after I trade it off. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one in a heartbeat but I also wouldn't pass up the 5.0L for the right price.

I know these tow well albeit being hard on fuel. And have sold well. From 2011 why are there not lots of people who tow who have 200,000 plus on them? Are they just not posting or being linked here? Is it people are not using them for high mileage due to fuel consumption? Or are they not holding up?

I saw a used 2011 3.5 Eco-boost with just over 200,000 miles on cars.com but don't know if that was original turbo or the 5th turbo.

To me 200,000 is a lot of miles over a relatively short lifespan so maybe not many out there that have that many miles and if so they are probably too busy driving them they don't get on forums often. Being realistic, I think the twin turbos perform how they should perform and the mpg are what anyone should expect for a gas motor like this.

Commercial use vehicles usually are the ones that rack up big miles quick. Perhaps commercial half tons are more the standard v6. Still local contractors often run half tons and sometimes opt for a premium engine. I never thought of turbos being an issue as in big trucks etc they are reliable normally going 100,000s of miles before replacing or rebuilding. Does EB have consistent issues with its turbos?

No, mostly just a myth from Ford haters who immediately whip out the line "there's no replacement for displacement". (insert eye roll here)
Are there a few out there who've gone bad? Sure. Ford's made millions of these engines, there's bound to be some isolated issues (and many of those issues are due to abuse/tampering).

I have the same truck with 46K. Our big trips always average 10mpg towing.
No maintenance issues so far.

All I can say is that he seriously overpaid. A complete turbo assembly through Ford is just over $700US.
