If you look close at the F650/F750's, you'll find the cab of a F250 with a completely different front cap. Of course, it's built on a medium duty frame with completely different suspension. They're all powered by the 6.7 liter Cummins engine going from 200-360 hp. I find it ironic they're not using the Ford diesel engine in the smaller chassis unit, but they don't.

I was thinking the F550's are essentially a F250 cab and front end on a short medium duty chassis. They're almost a totally different truck than a F450. And I was also thinking the front axle on F550's was a straight front axle with leaf springs--instead of coils and twin I beams. I have seen relatively few F550's over they years unless they were being used with big utility bodies with cranes and fuel tanks and other industrial/utility company applications. For the money, most RVers go on to true medium duty trucks that are best with air ride suspensions.

Over the years Cummins, International, and CAT were available engines on the F650/750. Once CAT said they cannot meet the newer emissions standards Ford no longer used CAT as an option. For only one year the Cummins was the only engine available. In 2012 the V10 gasser was the base engine with the Cummins as the option. 2016 model year the Ford built 6.7L will be the only diesel available and Cummins will not be an option.
