Ok Here is one more thought from the peanut gallery
What brand is the Ball on the hitch? Is it an Equilizer ball and the correct size?
I actually use a folded piece of wax paper as the lube on my hitch ball and spray the inside of the trailer coupler with Silicone lube
Try that

What brand trailer do you have? What type of coupler do you have on the trailer? Can you give us a picture?
I can't believe it's anything other than a coupler problem. The manufacturers use the cheapest components they can.
