Welcome to irv2. If your State is like Fl. you'll have to add the fifth wheel info to your account. They charge per axle I believe.

[It will work just fine. You will be charged accordingly while hooked to your 5er.[/B]

Florida has a SUN PASS. on the website, you register your vehicles on your account. It says:

"When towing, you can use the SunPass lanes. The toll for additional axle(s) will be calculated and deducted from your account balance during subsequent use. This is only recommended for occasional usage. If you pull additional axles on a daily basis, you will need to open a commercial account. To discuss the terms of a commercial account, please contact SunPass Customer Service at 1-888-865-5352 and a representative will be glad to assist you."

I have a SUN PASS and I live in North Florida away from ALL the toll roads and use it when I travel to the Keys 1 or 2 times a year or even every OTHER year. About 2/3 the times I go I tow 2 different trailers (1 single axle, 1 double axle) and have had no problems using the pass. It is a whole lot easier than stopping for the toll lanes with a trailer and get going again. You can get a SUN PASS even if you do not live in Florida. Other option is TOLL BY PLATE and here is the site for out of state: All-Electronic Open Road Tolling

Just found this and edited to add:
Q. I don’t have a SunPass but I have a transponder from another state such as FasTrak, E-ZPass or Toll Tag, can I use it to pay?
A. No, the SunPass electronic toll collection system is not compatible with transponders from any state other than Florida. E-Pass, from Orlando, and LeeWay, from Lee County, are compatible and may be used on any SunPass facility and vice versa.

I am thinking that you are in IL or live near IL and use the I-pass. If that is the case than yes you can use the I-pass with your 5er. I have used the I-pass since owning a 5er back in 2008 with no issues. The IL I -pass will work in most other states that have toll roads also. I usually drive in the cash lane in other states at the first toll that I enter and the toll both operator waves me on and tells me that it works in their state too.

We call it "EZ Tag" in Texas and they will automatically bill you on the number of axles.

So where is your EZ Pass issued?

OK, may not apply in your case, depending on the state you're referencing. I have an EZ Pass issued by New York State, actually have two, one for towing and one for not towing.
Seems if you're in the Down State area, closer to "The City" the toll booths have axle sensors so you get charged based on the number of axles. Up in the Western part of NYS they don't have the axle sensors so they require a pass based on the proper number of axles. Thus we have the two EZ Passes.
Also have a Sun Pass for winter use and as already mentioned a standard pass is fine for minimal towing usage.

The TX EZ Tag is not the same as the EZPass used in the eastern US (at least it wasn't last year).

I know, but there is nothing in her profile that indicates where she is. Play on words depending on person and it can become confusing between the two systems. Just making sure.

For future informational purposes.

As has been questioned, is it Ezpass, as in the title or Ipass in the message
I-PASS and E-ZPass

I-PASS and E-ZPass can be used interchangeably and are accepted in 15 states by 25 toll agencies. Rates and discounts are set by individual facilities. Please visit their websites through the E-ZPass facilities page for specific information.

Hi, I am aware this is an old thread but I am new to this site and I would like your help with signing up for ezpass. I plan to travel from Jax,Fl to Portland, Me. If I stick to the highway then this toll payment make sense. When I get to Maine I will be using the highways but without pulling the trailer. My research: only need to register the truck because the gates will count the axles and bill ya. others stated Ill need two ??

I would like to know if you have a choice with a state that you have registered with and would recommend, (or not recommend) , so I can get it right the first time. I'll be pulling with my truck and the trailer is 35' 2-ax toy box. Thanks

I live in MA and we have EZ-Pass. You have to register the tow vehicle and the trailer plates. This way, if there is a problem reading the tag, they can trace it via the plate. You don't need a separate tag to use when pulling the trailer. It counts axles as you said. I use one EZ-Pass in MA, NH, and ME. Sometimes towing the trailer and sometimes not. I haven't had any issues with incorrect billing.

As far as I know, Florida doesn't use the same system, so you'll need to get one of theirs or use cash.
