F150 w/Ecoboost . . . again

Ok, mother bought a 2011 F150 with Ecoboost. Max trailer tow package. So 11.5k on the receiver w/WDH, big mirrors, trans cooler, 3.73s, etc.
What is realistic weight on this truck? She seems to be stuck on 500lbs tongue weight and 5k lbs for the whole trailer.
Looked at some Starcrafts that were 6k empty and 7.5k GVWR.
Who's right?

I used a 2011 5.0 litre F-150 to tow a 5,000 lb. trailer. The truck handled this weight ok but I knew the trailer was back there. The trailer was not areodynamic. Remember the truck only weighs 5,700 lbs.

If you get an areodynamic trailer like Airstream, Vantage, Element and a few others you could tow a bit more than one that is not areodynamic.

I would not max out the truck with a10,000lb trailer.

Said it has 3.73s.
Per Ford (grain of salt):
UVW - 5687
CCC - 1900
=
GVWR - 7650

Then a GCWR of 17100 and max trailer weight of 11200.

7.5 K is a breeze for this rig.

This thing pull like a freight train in the heat at altitude from under 2K.

I'm all for being able to pull whatever. I have a one ton dually diesel.
Stopping is what everyone harps on. It's got good brakes, trailers have brakes, give me a brake.
What about stability? How does it handle 7.5k lbs while in wind or traveling or curves?

I'll also say that you say the gauges say it's "cool." Kinda hard to say that since those are still probably "dummy" gauges. If it's a real monitor then that'd be something to comment on.

What RPM in 5th were you holding on that first hill?

Its fantastic. Its brakes are excellent and so is the integrated brake controller.

One ton dually diesels have their place for sure, but ride like crap unloaded and are lousy all around vehicles.

I pulled my 10K toyhauler (no video though) with this and felt that was tops. Any more than that ID get a diesel, but up to that - this is a fine vehicle.

Stability is great largely. the palm springs grade is where the windfarms in So cal are so yeah... you could say Ive towed through windy conditions. The chassis is really stiff and the suspension does the work it should.

Those are the stock gauges on an f150 ecoboost. They have been pretty accurate.

Not sure what your reference to temp would be is other than maybe a scan gauge.

Coolant temp never went above 50% on a day I was towing that and it got up to 108 outside so I feel pretty comfortable saying that it was "cool."

Was holding 2200-2300 If I remember correctly.

The coolant gauge is just a needle.

The trans temp reads out in degrees and the highest I got at the chiriaco summit was 210 on a 108 degree day- it mostly runs arouns 200-204 even on long hills like this.


Watch it pull my boat up the long grade out to parker.

The F150 does have the "dummy" gauges but in the info screen in the center instrument cluster, it does give actual transmission temps and I believe engine temps (cylinder head temp). Expect those to move around somewhat.

Assuming you mean realistic max gross trailer weight without being overloaded, about 7,000 to 8,000 pounds max.

Assuming the GVWR is 7,650 and the wet and loaded truck weighs 6,450, that leaves 1200 for max hitch weight without being overloaded. If the trailer has 15% hitch weight, that's a max wet and loaded trailer weight of up to 8,000 pounds.

She's right, if she doesn't invest in a weight-distributing hitch. But with a WD hitch rated for 1,000 or 1,200 pounds max tongue weight, she can probably tow an 8,000 pound TT without being overloaded.

That trucks the same as my 2010 I had. It had the same 7650gvw, maxtow, 3.73 etc. I towed a 7300lb 31' TT and sometimes it was fine and other times it was marginal. Moved up to a 3/4 ton and all was better. IMO I wouldn't tow anything more than 28' and 6500lbs loaded. FWIW I had a perfectly dialed in EQ hitch with 4 pt sway control. I also had E rated tires and SuperSprings on it.
