Fifth wheel towing w/2005 F150 Anyone doing it?

Unfortnately we've yet to have someone chime in that they are pulling a fifth wheel with an 05 or 06 F-150 which was the reason for the post. I have done alot of research on this truck and I can read through alot of the advertising hype associated with a new model (I work for Ford's largest supplier). The numbers don't lie though. Ford would not put their rep on the line and say the truck will pull a fifth wheel when it won't, and considering the fifth wheel towing capacity and payload on the new 06' F150, is larger then my 04' Superduty it would only make sense to go this route considering I'm SELLING my fifth wheel. You want to compare numbers.....here you go, look it up.
My current truck is a 2004 F-250 extended cab 8ft box, 5.4L V8 4x4, with 3.73 axles. It will pull a #7700 lb fifth wheel (advertised wight), with a payload capacity of #1745 lbs (not counting the hitch). I know for a fact I'm over that amount. The 2006 F-150 extended cab 8ft box, 5.4L (three valve) V8 2WD, with a 4.10 axle has a payload capacity of #1869 lbs and advertises it will pull a #9500 lb fifth wheel.
Do you see where I'm going with this??
I have decided to go with the 2WD since most of my daily driving is close to home and I really don't need the 4WD, plus the wife drives an Explorer with AWD.
I was hoping to get some input from someone who was actually pulling a 5'er with an 05' or 06' F150 to see how they liked it. If our 05' Pilgrim sells before spring I might not even need to swap the hitch.

AllanB: I think one of the reasons you may not be getting a response is due to the new design of the 05/06, 150s box. Being deeper than the older ones, this has got to make it hard to set the fifth wheel heights. Just a guess but I haven't seen a lot of new 150s towing fivers.

The answer is ... YES, it can on a level street.

The answer ... NO it cannot... the Volkswagen will be whipped around like a rag doll in a puppy dog's mouth.

Over simplified ?? YES

But the point I want to make is that just because an F150 will pull your trailer does not mean that it can stop safely in an emergency situation..

The reason is the actual weight of the truck itself. You say that the F150 weights +/- 5000 lbs and the F250 weighs +/- 6000 lbs.

A thousand pounds may not seem like a lot of difference but believe me it makes a lot of difference in maintaining control during a fast stop scenario..

Please don't misunderstand me Alan, it is your decision and I sincerely wish you the best in what ever decide.. I just wanted to bring up the point about the different weight factors..

Once again, I wish you the very best in whatever you decide to do, and hope you won't turn down a cup of coffee with me some day just because we don't see eye to eye of some things.
