Finally settled on 15.5k lb GVWR 5er

Then I double checked the calculator at the top of this forum to ensure I could safely tow it. Yep, you guessed it...per the calculator, I can not.

My 06 Ram 3500 drw (3.73) only has a GCWR of 21k. Truck scales at 7900lbs.

Sure, I could leave some stuff at home but my current TT GVWR is 9950 and it scales at 9400.

Really?

So are you actually loading the 5er to the GVW? Most people don't. What's the stickered dry weight of the 5er, and how much did you add to your current trailer? That's what I work off. Heck my 5er has 4315lbs of CCC. I don't even have room for 4315lbs of stuff. I look at the dry sticker weight, add my 1500lbs (typ for me) and then go from there. GVW is meaningless unless you load the trailer to the max.

You know what is really bad my 2500 08 Mega cab 4X4 3:73 diff's has a GCWR of 20,000 LBS just 1,000 under your 2006 3500 DRW truck. Ram has been known to understate the GCWR on their trucks.

I would look at your tires and see what they are rated for? Do you have E rated or something higher that you are using for tires. The tires are the weakest link on these truck. Some users on TDR (turbo Diesel Register) have switched out the E rated tire and use a 19.5 Rickson wheel and 19.5 Size tires to haul a heavier camper with no issues.

Here s the link to Rickson Rims. Rickson Wheel Manufacturing

This will be cheaper than a new truck.

my current TT dry: 7750, GVWR is 9950 and it scales at 9400. I have 1650 lbs of stuff now (My storage areas are nearly full)

With the new 5er I would anticipate adding more stuff (ie, W&D, more cooking equipment, chairs, bikes, (ie, you know all the stuff that normally goes in the truck bed) just gear in general (since it has that big cavernous storage space!!!!!)

You must have small tanks. I can carry 1100 lbs of fresh water. Then I add the two bikes for another 1800 lbs.

My DW has just about the same amount of stuff in the 5er as the house. And all of it is glass, corel or metal.

Except for the W&D the rest of the stuff that normally goes in the truck that will go in the 5er is still the same weight. It all goes against the GCVWR.
So you're saying that you will be maxed out on the 5er GVW when loaded?

BTDT with our currant 5er. All my truck stuff is in the front compartments. Gotta say it is nice. No unpacking stuff out of the truck when we get home. Maybe a couple things and that's it.

1100 divide by 8.33=132 gals.

Obviously not the norm for 99% of people towing trailers.

Twin 55 gallon (cdn). The second tank was an option.

The tanks are in the 5er.

Fair enough--just couldn't understand 1 tank larger than I had ever come across. Many times I would have liked to have more than my 100 gallons.

Cumminsfan--that is why I was curious.

Thanks,
Joe

With both bikes in we could not carry any water or we were over. I scaled the unit with and without bikes and water.

I feel your pain. I was towing 13,300 lb 5er with a srw F250 7.3 3.73 with GCWR of 20,000 lbs. I was over that by 1,300 lbs. So I bought an F350 drw 7.3 and guess what....still has GCWR of 20,000. Only thing is the truck GVWR is under now.
