First time being stranded

Well, it has happened already. Came out to the truck after work and it wouldn't recognize my key fob. I used the backup key to get in and of course the alarm started going off. I tried the suggestion from the owners manual of holding the fob against the push button, and got nothing. The dealer recommended disconnecting the batteries for ten minutes, and again, no results. I pulled the fuse for the horn to get the truck to quiet down, and eventually called roadside assistance to get the truck towed to the dealer. At the moment the dealer is at a bit of a loss because their super fancy computer thing won't even hook up and communicate with the truck. We did have an incredible lightning storm, with hits that shook our building, and I can't help but wonder if that had anything to do with the issue. Truck only has 13-1400 miles.

Sure sounds like the close lightning strikes have something to do with the wacky behavior of the electric items that stopped working.

Good luck

It's a 2015 Ram Longhorn Dually. I should probably create a signature...

No word yet on a fix. They might have to start replacing electrical systems since their scanner thingie won't communicate with the truck.

I forgot to mention, the truck was parked right next to a metal light pole. No visible signs that the truck or pole was struck, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'll keep you guys posted!

Under warranty. Have them give you a new truck. If they can't fix within a week or so.
Also a FREE rental to use.

With all the electronics these days packed into newer vehicles, one needs to have a PHd in electronic engineering. Once they get the vehicle to talk to the mechanics hopefully it will spit out a direction to look.

If their scanner won't recognize the trucks ECM, the ECM is probably cooked and will need replaced.

That sucks. I would not tell the about the lightning since you are not sure about the facts and that would only give them a valid excuse to not warranty it.

I'm certain the dealer knew about the storm as we are in the same small city, but they have always taken real good care of me and didn't ask a single question.

The shop called yesterday afternoon and think they should have the truck fixed sometime today. When I get the truck I'll post the final analysis of the issues that were found. I think he said something about a tps computer from Initech, but I could have misheard him there.

You typically can't tow anything with a rental.. Let alone a 5th wheel. :-)

They did give us a cute little Nissan Rogue to use, free of charge. And in the event that the DRV comes in and the truck isn't done, the general manager offered me his pickup to go get it. As long as the trailer is fairly empty I believe his truck is optioned out enough to get the job done. These guys are great.

Good.. Is the fob issue something relatively well "known" on the 2015 Rams?
