First Tow Impressions / Questions

Just brought this home today! Listed as 3750 GVWR. Using WTH and anti sway (dealer said both overkill). 2013 1500 truck has tow package w 3.42 rear. No extra load in trailer or truck, just a full tank of gas. 9600 rating if I recall correctly. Should be way enough truck.

25 miles flat interstate home. Played with "trailer mode". Didn't make a huge difference. Sure shifted a lot and ran higher RPM than normal (understandably to a degree). Have hauled utility trailer with gravel before approaching same weight. Doesn't shift/rev as much.

Normal for it to shift/rev so much?

Wind resistance of the trailer will account for more shifting then normal.

25 miles isn't a very long test run. Leave it in tow mode that's what it's designed to do.

You have plenty of truck. Leave it in Trailer Mode. Get used to towing, you should be fine once you get accustomed to towing.

I have a GMC with the same towing capacity, &, I tow a 4K trailer. The setup you have is safe, once you get accustomed to it.

ID:	150769you have more than enough truck for that trailer.

Just leave it in the tow haul mode and enjoy.

We have been towing our trailer with our truck for a few years now and I only have a I5 motor. I leave it in 3rd gear set the cruise control at 60mph run about 2800rpm and it will down shift into second gear going up mountains and runs about 4500 rpm and holds 60mph with cruise control on.

Enjoy.

Excessive auto transmission shifting will cause the transmission temp to rise. I always manually select the transmission gear. However, I have a different tow vehicle (Nissan Armada) so your situation may be different. By manually shifting I can keep the engine at the proper RPM and my transmission temp gauge never moves from normal.
