Hi y'all.
I have 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 offroad. 4.0 auto with Air springs.
Its a plenty gutsy small truck.
Have you ever seen anyone pull a fifth with one?
I know I can get a used shasta lite or something but I have interest in deciding what I should shop for... the max I should go fully loaded. There are many around 7000lbs loaded and the recommended towing weight for my truck in just over 5000 but I am pretty sure they all fudge on the "warranty" side.

If they 'fudge on the warranty side' it is by seemingly implying the ratings give you higher allowances then they will be in the real world once you have tallied up all the real weights that you have already loaded onto your truck,
don't run out and take advantage of any weight allowances that really aren't there

There is no need to chastise someone for trying to give you advise. Bottom line is I beleive if you contacted Ford you will find that Ford will not rate your truck for a 5th wheel trailer.

Yes I have seen someone with a Ford Ranger pulling a 5er once. It was a very tiny 5er and the rear end of the truck was practically dragging on the ground.

Ford's 2009 towing guide rates a Ford Ranger with a 4.0L and Automatic at 5600# but that is for a conventional trailer (not a 5th wheel trailer).

Maybe not be what you want to hear, but it is the truth.

Man, I thought we were talking about carrying a "fifth" in the ranger. I was going to say that would be no big deal, now that we are talking about a "5th wheel trailer", Boy, does that put a different light on things.

I personally think you would be better off putting the "fifth" in the Ranger than putting a "5th wheel" ON the Ranger.

Even a 5,000 pound 5er (if you can find one) will have a 1,000 pound pin weight. I'm pretty sure the ranger is not rated as a half-ton truck. I suggest you stay with a tow-behind trailer.
