I can barely keep up with my yard work,! I definitely don’t have the time or wallet for this type of project

It's like anything else

I'd guess that most of the complaints are from people who have never owned a 6.0. I had one and loved it! Yes, I had to make repairs/improvements after the EGR cooler failed. Heads resurfaced, valve grind, EGR delete, new oil cooler, coolant filter, head studs, gaskets, etc. The rest of my truck was like new so I weighed out the difference in price between doing the work on my truck, which was paid for, and buying a new truck. The difference was about $65k so it was an easy decision. After the work was done, the truck pulled my 31' TT all over the western USA without a single problem. Look at the overall condition of the truck and plan to spend $7-8k on the engine. Cummins owners aren't likely to say many good things about Powerstrokes and vice versa. Consider the source and make your own decision. I just sold the truck and trailer as I recently purchased a Class A MH. I hope I made the right choice.

No one has yet mentioned the high pressure oil pump problems.

The only way I would own a 6.0/6.4 diesel ford is if someone gave it to me and 5k to fix it.

Bought a 6.4, had it for less than a year, but spent 7k to keep it going. Now have a 2014 6.7 and love it. I'm not a mechanic, but thought I was getting a good deal. NOT.

I never had HPOP issues but there was always at least ONE injector that was bad....$500/each to replace ($250 injector $250 labor...)
You'll notice many people put in all 8 new injectors at some point in a 6.0s life....

Archoil is amazing but it's really a bandaid...

You may consider looking at f250's with 6.2 gas burners in them . I had a 6.7 power stroke f250 pulling my toy hauler and it was great all the power you could want. The problem was the cost of owning the thing. I mean $150 oil changes def fluid. 50 cent a gallon higher fuel. I traded it in on a 2017 f250 with a 6.2 and though I does not have the surplus power the diesel had it pulls my trailer just fine. My milage averages about 2 mph lower across the board. The truck was 9k less than a comparable diesel truck. Cost per mile is actually cheaper on fuel alone not to mention the up front and maintenance costs. I pull the camper at least once a month and a 18' utility trailer a couple times a week with feed or equipment. If I stayed hooked up every day a diesel it would be. In a used f250 gasser you can save a ton and you can replace the entire engine for around $4500 with a factory crate engine.

Be careful in cold climates. At a former employer we had constant issues with the 6.0’s if the diesel “gelled” up in the cold. The injectors would fail ... and to replace one of the injectors you actually have to remove the cab of the truck.

There's more fake news in this thread than on CNN.

For anyone stumbling onto this thread that wants the straight scoop on a 6.0 or any truck for that matter, find a forum dedicated to the particular model you are interested in.

I watched the Lolo honeymoon videos...again as I have seen the video years ago. Probably the 1st vlog that I watched.

Anyway the owner (Sean) says a few things about his truck. He says it is kinda fun to drive and has plenty of power. That is about the way I would describe my experience of driving the old 2012 6.7 Ford diesel. Kinda fun.

Mobjack is looking for a less expensive truck than 2011, that is the 1st year for the gas powered 6.2 litre truck.

What Mobjack is doing makes sense to me. He is not brand specific and just wants a pretty good truck. If he reads the Internet he will get fake news. This forum is part of the internet. Forums by their nature are just opinions with just enough fact thrown in to keep me interested in reading the posts.

Mobjack - I have been to Fredericksburg Va. alot of times. They have a ton of trucks there. Actually there is a used truck dealer in King George Va. with a dozen or so trucks. Trouble is it takes time...ugh.[emoji20]

I owned an '06 F-350 SRW with the 6.0L in it.

It was an absolute POS. At 4k miles the high pressure oil pump failed, at 6k the EGR cooler failed, and 10k the turbo failed......that's my real world experience with it, never again.

Turbo lag is a whole other conversation.....

Now we tow heavy constantly as fulltimers, so perhaps for a "weekender" it would cost less. You the math how much money that was. Hint: A LOT.

At 187k it blew it's 3rd OEM EGR cooler, popped both head gaskets and I traded it in non running on my 2017. Absolute money pit. Didn't get jack for the trade in either.

I'd avoid em *shrug* - there is a reason they are cheap.
The EGR cooler is water to air. Its a tube with a cooling jacket welded around it. The OEM ones were plain steel, rusted thru due to the exhaust gases and then the coolant gets in the intake, then the cylinders, and turns the engine into a STEAM engine. This stretches the TTY head bolts and blows the head gaskets. Aftermarket EGR coolers are heavy wall stainless steel, and hold up rather well from what I have read. If you do that, you really don't even need to change out the TTY head bolts, but having the hardened steel head studs is good insurance. They can be changed out one at a time without disturbing the head gaskets. The EGR cooler is where all the problems begin. Ford did use a high silicate antifreeze and this clogs the tiny water passages in the oil cooler, aftermarket coolers have larger passages and simply eliminating the water to oil cooler altogether is a good option.

If you want it to run smooth add a Fluidampr in the place of the harmonic balancer, I added one to my Cummins with good results.

This is certainly good advise. I did this when I bought my MH on a Sprinter chassis, joining both the appropriate forum (Yahoo Groups View/Navion forum) and also the Sprinter Forum. I have learned alot.

Quoted for truth !!!

A properly bullet proofed 6.0 is as good if not better than the 7.3L.

Dont listen to dodge guys, they have very selective memories. Seems they know every problem "a friend" had with his ford but never remember any cummins issues, like the dowel pins falling into the time chain, the thousands and thousands of "53 blocks" which all are cracked/or will crack. The 98-02 VP44 problem childs, but its only like $2000 to fix it. Plus the fact it took them 20+ years to find an automatic tranny that wouldnt shell out, and they had to get that from somebody else.

Also look for the 04.5 Dodge 3500 with a 6 speed, its a really fantastic long lasting combination.
