Ford Fuel System
Ford went to a sealed diesel fuel system a few years back. Does anyone know if you can still use a gravity feed auxiliary fuel tank like the RDS with this system?

I was told by Ford and a company named Earl Owens that it's not possible on a '15 or newer. EO says they're still trying but no luck. RDS also does not sell a gravity feed for newer Fords. I'm going with a tool box combo with an enclosed pump so I can use my tonneau cover when not towing.

Thanks, that was what I was afraid of. Who is the manufacture of the pump you are going to use?

I use a tranferflow tank in my 16 F-350. I love have one in the last 3 trucks. They are a bit more but read their site there are very good reasons. I have the trax3 system which ties into your factory. Have a look it's not that much more for a good system.

The one that comes with the RDS toolbox tank combo. I think I have room for the 60 gallon model and still be able to keep my Yamaha gennie in front of the hitch. Pull it up on google or check it out at Northern Tool. I hope to have mine by next month prior to leaving Texas again. Good luck.

2016 F350, gravity fed, dealer installed 50 gallon. Ford engineers do not approve, but it is done all the time.

Ford told me that that sooner or later the CEL would come on and eventually derate the engine. RDS no longer sells a kit for '15 or newer Fords. Earl Owens told me they couldn't do it. I ended up with a RDS 71787 and a GPI pump. If I had thought I could do gravity feed I would have. Glad it's working for you.

Thanks, as a side note, when I bought the truck i told them I wanted a fuel tank installed, and could they get me a good deal on one thru the dealership, sure they say. When myself and the salesman went to the parts dept to see what they could get, we got to talking about the gravity fed system, all of a sudden anybody that got in on the conversation started saying " No, we don't install gravity fed systems". Now I'm kinda slow sometime's, but I thought I had entered the twilight zone for a few minutes, until I realized one of the participants in the conversation was a young ford engineer. His only problem with a gravity fed system was contaminates that might be in a aux tank.{ IMHO Fords way of getting out of warranty on certain things. } Nothing was ever mentioned about causing engine problems. I thought it was funny as Heck, that after he left the scene, everything went back to the original plan, install tank and gravity fed system.

As long as you're diligent about draining the water separator part of the frame rail mounted filter you shouldn't have a problem with contamination. I'll be curious to see how it works. The pump was not something I wanted to deal with.

Anybody that owns a truck that works as hard as ours, they better do maintenance. I have hauled a 40 ft 5th from TX to NM, to TX then to AZ, then back to TX several times, no problems.
