Ford Taurus As A TV

I just read an article that seems to indicate that the Ford Taurus SEL 4dr Front Wheel Drive is a capable TV to tow a GVWR trailer of around of dry wt 6000 pounds and cargo of 2000# (8000# total).
It seems to me that this is just not so from a weight point of view. The Ford towing guide says that max tow weight is 1000# when the car has the proper equipment. I can't find the GVWR or the GCWR of the Taurus so I am a little confused by this article.
The article seems to indicate it is talking about a late model 2012/2013
Can anyone clue me in?

Not sure but that doesn't sound even close to what a car can handle. I wouldn't pull a small boat with a car that size. The highest I saw was 2000 lbs. on their website.

Having driven many a mile in a Taurus, I would not use the car to tow a loaded utility trailer.

I cannot imagine towing 8000#'s with a Taurus!!!

According to Yahoo Autos, the GVWR of the '13 Taurus is 4035lbs.

The picture with the article shows the car connected to a Avenger 25RL. The writer compares this combination against a Taurus SHO ecoboost pulling the same trailer. Ford's towing guide says "Taurus SHO with 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is not rated to tow a trailer."

I just do not understand this writer?

Is there something I am missing about the Taurus?

Even though the Taurus V6 is the same 3.5L engine and 6F50/55 transmission in the Edge, Flex, and Explorer with higher tow capacity, the bodies (unibody)and brakes are also designed for towing. Refer to your owners guide for any towing and follow those guide lines.

Sounds like a andy tompson (can am rv) article to me. I havent driven the new tauras however i was taken for a test drive in a newer Chrysler 300 S towing a 28 foot airstream and it by far exceeded all my expectations.
I think it depends on the trailer, setup and mods to the vehicle. I wouldnt buy a stock tauras thinking i can pull just anything with it but i think it is definitly more capable than the "not rated to tow" would suggest.
I remember when full sized RWD V8 cars was the norm for towing so its not as crazy as some might think.
The only problem i see is trying to stay within the limits of the GVWR with a heavy hitch weight. The 300 above had no problems stopping (with or without trailer brakes), stability or accelerating with that paticular setup.
Can am rv now has a new tauras sho hooked up to a 34 foot airstream( 9000lbs) so its possible.

Nice picture. Great place. Been there, done that. A year ago there was a Caravan with Surveyor next to this fence.
I was thinking about getting my E550 outfitted ( tons of power and air suspension), but ML with tow package, more appropriate wheels and tires just makes more sense.
Staying within GVWR can be a problem, but for non- overweight couple with a small child this may work.

I usually don't get uptight about posts that warn about legal problems after an accident with large trailers/small tow vehicles, but the Airstream/300 setup, or the Taurus, would certainly seem to be waving a red flag if something should go wrong.
