Gas run Ford MPG performance increase
Wondering if any Ford lovers out there know of any ways to increase MPG for a F-350 V10 gas engine? Please don't say drive slower, accelerate easy, properly inflate tires, blah blah blah, I know, not helpful. Am looking for useful aftermarket info that works.

I had a BANKS(R) on my '97 Ford 460 and it was great. Gas mileage increase was minimal but horse power was significant. But go all the way, headers, exaust and computer upgrades.

We installed a Banks system on our 2000 v10, no increase in fuel mileage, slight increase in power. I understand the Banks installed on the older 460's really woke the engine up and let it run a bit cooler, but not all that great on the v10's.
You may want to check with Brazel's RV performance and/or 5 Star tuning both sponsors of this forum who can reprogram your PCM for enhanced performance and possible increase in fuel economy.
Good luck

As you realized by reading the responses, there is no magic solution. It is what it is, a V10 high horsepower engine pulling an 8' X 12' wall weighing over 15,000# down the road.

V-10 mileage
I had a 2002 250 with the v-10 (2 valve, not the current 3 valve) and tried to improve power/mileage with a chip. It did slightly increase power, but hardly anything with mileage, and it required use of premium fuel. I believe all it did was increase the timing setting, thus needing premium to keep down the knocking. Anything you could do with a gas engine to help, in my mind, would be minimal and you might never get the cost back with mileage. The total Banks package is probably the best approach if you really want some help with the engine, but it is pricey, and you have Ford warranty concerns to think about.

If I can't say any of those things then there isn't much else to say.
I recommend you install a "Mr. Fusion" device from Back to the Future Industries. It is the only way to improve fuel mileage on a motorhome.
Sorry - couldn't resist!

Other than the things you mention that you don't want to hear, I don't know of any magic juice that is going to make a V10 get v6 gas mileage....If you figure it out, let me know, because my 6.4 needs help!
Maybe synthetic oil will gain a few tenths...plus a less restrictive air filter and cat back exhaust...

After tent camping from a Ford LTD in the 1970’s. Pulling a pop up with a Ford E150 in the 1980’s, towing a 30’ trailer in the 2000’s with a diesel Ford Excursion in the 2000’’s, then motoring in a diesel pusher Winnebago Journey 36M, we have discovered the key to gas economy is: Get a diesel.
Our Mercedes ML350 Blue Tec at 5000# gets 25-30 mpg. The Winnebago at 30,000# about 8-9 mpg. Lighten your cargo load, don’t carry with water or waste tanks full, and drive sensibly.

What about 5 star tuning ? Always hear good reports from people using them.

That is a good idea from Nick. Agree with 5 Star Tuning. They should have some results from their tunes to help make that decision.

Not V10. 7.3 gas here. After installing tonneau cover, my mpg improved from 12.5 to 13.6.
