General weighing of truck, great place

For anyone that wants to weigh their truck only, I just had an interesting conversation at a rock and stone place. I asked how much to weigh my truck...they looked at me odd...then said just weigh it. No charge just drive on the scale and read the weight on the outside display....rounding up a few pounds my 2012 F-450 with full diesel and me and tools and hitch weigh 8,998 lbs.

Not sure if all rock places are this accomadating and friendly but might be worth a try.

Some places with scales are good about letting the general public weigh for free.
My small town feed mill has a 75' platform scale. Its open 24/7. The digital readout is just inside their window at the store which makes for a short walk.
I always keep a scale ticket of each axle weight in my trucks . That way I know if a axle/wheel/tire is overloaded.

I have two recyclers that let public weigh their rigs for 5 bucks a trip or nothing if your selling scrap metal. However they give you a one weigh for gross which doesn't tell me what I want.

In Oregon all the truck scales are left on even when they say closed. Oregon has truck scales all over the state. On occasion for giggles I'll pull into one that says closed. The digital readout is still on so I can weigh what ever I want.

X2 - yep, I do this often. If I really get lucky there is one right down the road from where I am camping so I can run through with my trailer, unhook and run through again to get super accurate pin weight.

If the scale approaches are long enough you may be able to get an axle weight by pulling onto the scale with just one axle on the deck. If you are able to weigh the total and each axle individually the axle weights should be close to the total weight.

Being as close to the center of the deck is important to get a good weight especially the older beam scales. Load cells are better but scales may have discrepancies especially if they are at gravel or scrap yards as they may not have to be certified.

I get the weight of my truck with me in it at the waste transfer station. I fill up my fuel tank before dumping my trash. Get a nice weight report on the way out. The number is very consistent. Of course my wallet is a little lighter than normal.
