Additional info, for those wondering, the issue has to do with the block heater cord possibly shorting out and possibly caused by a block heater leak. Since winter is finally gone you can remain worry free as GM is working on a fix. They don't have parts nor a proper solution as of yet.

Dang, did GM use the same block heater cords as Ford? Recall on them...also.

Quite possibly. OEs don't build much. They source a bunch of parts and assemble vehicles. Even then, many larger parts are sourced as assemblies. GM and Ford share the same 10 speed trans on 1/2 tons.
