I would suggest doing a search on "gooseneck adapter". This subject has been discussed extensively numerous times here on iRV2.com as well as other forums. The gooseneck adapter acts like a lever (think "cheater pipe") that greatly increases torques applied to the 5th wheel pin box. The result can be (and has been, as experienced by some who have posted here) tearing of the 5th wheel pin box out of the frame.
Please - stay away from these kluges. They are bad news!!! If you need both a gooseneck and a 5th wheel hitch, I would highly recommend the B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch with its companion 5th wheel hitch accessory as shown HERE.
As a fellow engineer, the extra stresses created by the adapter are for real. Basic engineering mechanics is all that is need to prove it.
Some of the folks have been lucky and not had any damage. Seems more likely to work if you have a smaller and light weight 5er.
Also, check with your trailer manufacturer. They will generally void your frame warranty if you use an adapter.

Mine is still sitting in my storage building - hard expensive lesson learned - I won't even advertise it for sale here on the forum because I would not want any of my friends here to make the same mistake I did. Because of them I got if off my rig before any damage was done.

Guess it depends on the trailer and the frame. I have a full box frame on an 95 dutchman 30RK royal and have towed with mine for over 40K miles over some pretty rough terrain. Just last weekend i had the trailer in a foot of mud and pulled it out without and damage. Guess im a lucky one??

I have one right now on my new 05 343L Everest--dealer installed- called the manufactuor and the frame builder BOTH of them said NOT A GOOD IDEA--will void frame warranty..Am installing Reese hitch TODAY..
