Help Troubleshoot Tank Monitors on New Trailer
I asked on another site, but figured I would try here since I stumbled upon a similar problem and a troubleshooting post. But I need a little more detail on troubleshooting.
New trailer, still under warranty. Fresh water tank monitor shows E when totally full. No idea if grey or black tank monitors work, I havnt filled them.
For now, Im focused on teh fresh water one. There are wires connected to the sensor on the tank. From there, I don't know.
It is an Intelli-View panel. Can I 'bench test' these sensors by jumpering them and checking the panel? If so, how?
If I understand it, the fact that the freshwater button yields an E light, means that the wire from the resistor block to the panel is in fact operational. Yes?
Do I just connect a lead to the ground (white) wire on the tank and then the other to each of the other terminals on the tank and see if a corresponding led lights up?
Im far enough away from anywhere that it often benefits me to fix these things myself rather than rely on a dealer, thats why Im asking, in case anyone is wondering.
Oh, and the battery function DOES work on the panel, so all the LED are at least functional for it.

Typical Tank Contact Sensor-based Wiring Diagram

Below is a diagram that I consult when I want to remind myself how "traditional" sensor-based tank level indicating systems work.
As you suggest (and although I've not done it), you should be able to jumper each tank's sensor wire to its ground and light the appropriate lights.

We have owned several different rigs, and MHO is forget the gauge lights, because they get gummed up with "stuff" and are pretty much useless. Although the fresh water should not be gummed up.

Yeah, and I probably don't even need it, but since im new to this, Id like to have a gauge for a few trips so I can get a handle on water usage. The filler hole for fresh water is so small, I can't see how much water I have. If I could, that would be sweet.

The fresh water sensor should always work. The black tank sensor is usually problematic and requires flushing on a regular basis. The grey tank is in the middle.
You should take it back to the servicing dealer and have them look at it.
In time you will learn your tanks performance but I agree with you they need to be working when new.

I know you are asking about your fresh water tank but the black tank gauge will Always work if you have a black tank flush. You need to use the black tank flush for 10 - 15 minutes after dumping. 5 year old trailer bought new and all sensors still work.
Now to the fresh water tank. If it has never worked then it is my guess you have a loose or disconnected sensor wire somewhere.
Or worse yet a mouse got into your trailer and chewed the wire.
Agree that the the fresh water sensor gives the least problems followed by gray then black with the most problems. My very 1st trailer did not have a black tank flush and the black tank sensor did not work.

I will. All wires are connected to the fresh water tank itself. I looked. I dont know if the blue wire is connected to teh panel, maybe they forgot, but I assume that since I DO get an E light, that the wire MUST be connected to the panel.

It's under warranty. Don't mess with it. You will have other issues so make a punch list and deliver it back to the dealer when you won't be using it for a while. Manufacturers and some dealers love the words, you tried to fix it and voided your warranty.

The "E" light comes on if there is power to the panel when you push the button. It doesn't mean much more than that.
