Measuring trailer tongue weight with a bathroom scale

I have used that method before and was impressed with how accurate it could be if you where precise in all your measurements. I was trying to balance a 5000 lb boat on a boat trailer and had way to mush tonque weight so I had to slide the axles forward on the boat trailer to take weight off the tonque. That's something you can't do with a camping trailer.
