How long do front tires last on a dually

My answer is 29,500 miles on my 2012 Ford Dually. The 4 back tires are still ok but holy cow..I actually needed new front tires at 25,000 miles. I know there is approx. 5,000 lbs. riding on the fronts.

How many miles are others getting on the front tires?

Did you ever rotate the fronts from side to side?

Don't have a dually, but my truck tires does wear more up front. I have about 25k on them. My issue is they are the low profile 20" that came with the truck and have been rotated every 5k. I'm estimate I have 10k left before I need new rubber at which I will not get the same OEM brand. I will take some of this with a grain of salt because our 14k Alaska trip this summer was on paved road that are very course. The stone used on the Alcan and in AK. is very large with 100's of miles of chip-seal type roads.

I'll have to do some research on a better wearing tire next time around. Are your tires wearing "evenly". up front?

I follow a YouTuber full timer pulling a large ish 5er with a Ford F-450 and he has experienced unusual tire wear, but he has also had issues with front suspension components leading to that premature tire wear. He thought he had it fixed, but had to get yet another set of front rubber in the last month. And this is a fairly new truck....

My tires usually last until they wear down to the wear bars, then I replace them. If the wear is uneven then you could switch side to side on the new ones.

I also don't have a dually but my fronts and rears lasted to 42k. Those were 18" OEM Michelins.

Yes, I had the tires rotated side to side twice. At 6,000 and 14,000 miles. By 14,000 miles the tires were cupping. The Ford diesel shop that installed two front tires told me that towing vs non-towing made the truck tricky to align as the front end geometry changes.

I rotate the tires on my 3500 dually every other oil change going side to side. I have 35,000 mi on its initial set and they still have a lot of tread left.

Why only rotate side to side? Do you run different fronts than rear? Otherwise...

If you have aluminum wheels on front and outer duals he cannot rotate front to rear but if he has steel wheels he can. I assume he has aluminum wheels. The only other way is to break the tires down and move them to a different wheel. He can go side to side. The cost of mounting demounting would be more than new tires after a few times. This is a Ford thing I am not sure about other makes.

I currently have 45,000 on the front tires and expect to get another 10 - 15,000. They will age out before they mile out.

These are the original tires and I expect new higher quality tires will do much better. Unfortunately they will age before they wear out as well.

Not sure if the OP has a 350 or a 450--can't tell in the avatar pic.
As to my 450--I have consistently gotten 75-80000 miles on a set of 6 (4x4 also) by just rotating side to side. But my tires are the 19.5s, so they should last longer.
Some times, if it is a 4x4, not too many alignment shops will get them correctly aligned--and the fronts do generally wear faster.

I don' t have dually but I tow a 14K 5vr

I get 60,000 miles on front/rear tires (Michelin A/T2) before I get new tires....not because they are worn out but because I tow at max rating
Tires still have good thread..they wear evenly and NO I don't rotate.

Tires are balanced when bought and again IF I loose a wheel weight or feel vibration

Truck has had ONE alignment in 10 yrs

I run front tires at 55 psi ALL the time
I run rear tires at 45 psi (non-towing) and 80 psi (towing)

OP........
What PSI are you running front tires at?

Front geometry changes.....?????
5th wheel shouldn't change front end geometry to radically cause 'alignment' issues

Have you ever had truck/trailer combo weighed?
Have you had truck weighed?

My 5vr adds 150# to my front axle but doesn't cause issues.

Not a Ford, but I currently have 60000 miles on my tires. The 4 on rear need replacing now, but front should go another 10000 more.

My factory tires lasted 40k... rears actually could have gone another 10. On the Ram duallys the rear inner tire pressure sensors are unique and must stay in that position. Ram recommended just swapping sides on the fronts and rears, but I think I will swap fronts to rear outer tires and rear Inners side to side.
