I hear you. Yes, it's beautiful here. Just run like any other liberal nightmare state. I also understand on the stability of a DRW and I'm sure if mine was a pure tow vehicle, I'd already own one. Is it better when towing? Sure. Can you get by without it, for me, yes. Personally, I just can't abide a third vehicle. I just sold my car as it never got used and my truck is lucky if it sees 10k a year.

Hey Taken, I'm interested in this statement, is this true of all states? Where would one find info on this?

There is a gentleman that I became friends with years back on the Ford forums. He is retired military and is now a retired police officer. He was tired of the sky is falling reports on the various RV forums and the Ford forum that he has a position of moderator and decided to do his own research. Through contacts with his work and many hours of calling he found out the bottom line on liability. In both commercial and personal accidents, when an overweight situation is suspected, it's always axle weights that were investigated. GVWR, GCWR, etc. were not. I'm not sure if he contacted every state and some could say I'm foolish for taking the word of someone and not making all the calls myself. However, I trust the man and that's good enough for me. I suppose if it was really important to someone (it wasn't for me...) they too could make the same inquiries but in the end, that info would only serve them as anyone else would have to take their word for it.

If you really want to know the truth, I just don't worry about things that will likely never happen. It's like getting struck by lightning. Yes, it has to happen to someone but if I worried about rare situation that could happen, I'd never leave my home. Hell, probably my basement. I also don't wear my seatbelt, don't buy extended warranties, ride an ATV/Harley/snowmobile/PWC, eat pizza and cheeseburgers nightly, and drink adult beverages at will to wash them down. Color me rebellious... LOL. Maybe someday I'll get hit by lightning while riding my Harley on the way home to eat a burger and have a brewski. Or maybe I'll get in an accident while towing. I just don't believe you can pick one token issue, play it super safe with said issue, and assume you got being safe in life covered. But that's just my thoughts. YMMV.

Just to throw some fuel on the fire, in New York anything over an F150 needs to be registered as a 'commercial vehicle' --- and those commercial plates will effectively keep you off of most suburban New York City area parkways (though I have successfully navigated them in my commercially licensed TVs - you have to 'know' in some cases that a particular parkway is limited). The difference in the f250 - F350 is a 'B' post sticker and possibly a different set of rear axle blocks and maybe an overload spring leaf.
There actually is a Ford TSB with the parts needed to add the 4" block to an F250. The blocks are relatively inexpensive but if you buy everything else, gets pricy (TSB: 13-03-08)

IMHO!!! Pulling the toy haulers with a 250/2500, is not the problem.
Stopping may be. In there defense , T.H.'s they are usually triple axle.

Yep, I did the job myself on my last 09 F250. Taller block were $40 a piece, longer U-bolts were another 16 per side. Then I did bags instead of the overload spring for adjustability. Just like any other 250, I didn't up the legal on paper rating, but I knew it was the same as a SRW 350 and that's what mattered to me. Now (late 2014+) the 250's are starting to come with the 4" blocks on certain pkgs and the camper package comes with the overloads.

I hear this a lot, but the trailers brakes are what is supposed to stop the trailer, not the truck. Mine when set at 10 will lock up or jerk the truck back if you are too aggressive with braking.

OK, OK, now queue the guy who quotes this post and points out that I used the words "supposed to" and asks what if the trailer brakes fail. Let me cut that off at the pass and advise you to read the second paragraph of the post I made at 2:41 for my thoughts on "what ifs..."

There is no difference in the brakes on an F250 and an F350 srw truck.

Correct. For the current generation SD trucks, only in 2011 did the SRW 350's get hydro boost like DRW's. 2012 and forward all SRWs got vacuum boost...
