how often do you slide the hitch?

I have the longest extended pin on a jayco with a short box 99 Superduty crewcab. My RV dealer said I didn't need the slider but I got the Reese anyway and the only time I have used it in 6 years was to try it out. I have parked it many times on places people said I could not get it in. They would gather and applaud after I parked it. I'm a pretty good judge of where I can back something. Grew up on a farm.
I think its more related to your skill and comfort with backing. I know how sharp I can turn without hitting the truck cab and I have never had to turn any sharper. I would make the decision based on my comfort level. I wish I would have saved the money, but for some it might be worth it.

When I had my shortbed I would engage the slider everytime I was backing in. To me, I just think there is other things to worry about (trees) than worrying about hitting the cab. I park the truck, put it in slider mode and also check out the site by walking it. Now I have a long bed and dont have to worry about it!

I make it a rule to slide it any time I back up and turn. That would be about once per trip - eg into my driveway. I think I can get into my driveway without using it, but just barely - so I don't flirt. I also don't know what aspect of my slider is loose or rattling. Locked in either position it seems solid to me.

Hey ya'll thanks for the input. I just finished up with my first pull!! I bought the camper and basically kept in onsite in the town were I was working. Anyway just finished up a little over 1300 miles with no problem. I gotta tell ya I was nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs for the first few maneuvers but had plenty of room (course I did pay attention and never got close to a 90 degree angle)

Anyway the 02 Duramax SB Crewcab and the hijacker 16k slider did just fine. BTW I am pulling a 36 foot
HR double slide.

I admit, I don't ever slide mine because I have a Pullrite. Yes I have had it slide lots of time but that is by design
