Husky WD Hitch and retainer clips

Has anyone experienced the retainer clips on the Husky WD hitch breaking off? This just happened to me yesterday and I did not pull it so far out that it broke. I'm not that strong to pull that clip competely back. Plus, this hitch is only two months old. Waiting for the dealer to tell me if I can get a new one or not -- I'm sure they'll give me problem saying I pulled it too far back. This is an awkward way to hold the bars up. Can holes be drilled in the hitch and bars so clips can be used? Just a thought when the dealer tells me it's my problem. Not sure if a welder could put the holes in.
