Been a few years since I researched this, but it was legal in the Carolina's. Although the first trailer must be a 5th wheel. I saw a number of them last weekend headed to the beach,,,, most popular is to carry a small trailer with the golf cart in the rear.

I did this on one trip, it wasn't bad. Sorta liek driving the tram at Disney.

It is legal in allot of states. Most states the first tow must be a 5th, the second a utility trailer or boat. The determining factor is the overall length.

Big Rigs have been doing it for years, and they still pull doubles. If you have the right tow vehicle it is no different when it comes to safety. Have you ever heard of an accident documented because they were pulling two trailers in a legal manner, I haven't.

Legal to tow behind a 5th wheel in Ca. with license endorsement. Legal to tow behind a bumper pull in some states.

It is legal in Alberta, as long as the forward trailer is a 5th wheel, and total length is less than 65'. To go to B.C. we had to tow our boat separately.

The guys driving the double are pros and they even sway on the highways at times, just follow a UPS tendem and you'll see that the second trailer sways a lot more then just a single.
I've seen older fellows driving their 45 footer and towing a dinghy and man I wish they had a special permit to drive their MH or a towing assembly of over 60 feet long ! Quite of owners woul'nt be able to drive their rig if they had to pass a driving exam with their coach.

In another forum I actually have moderator privlidges in we have a saying "Your millage may vary".

And that is the answer here.. Some states you can tow doubles
Some states Trailer #2 must be a ____ (Usually boat)
Some states you need a special license
Some states It might be better if you did not do it (Against the law)(

Some states it may well have changed while I was typing this.

All you can do is download the vehicle code and read it.
