I don't normally post this type of question but a co-worker has shown interest to my "You should sell that truck to me" question. It's a '97 F250 4x4 Powerstroke/automatic XLT. The truck is in good condition except it needs a new box - he had a portable dump box in the bed and it tipped over while he had it extended crushing the side of the box. It has 130k miles and he's owned it since new.

We are in the $7000 to $8000 area on a price and I was hoping I could get a little feed back on what to look for. I've been bouncing back and forth between an F250 and 350 but I don't know if I can pass up this price for a Powerstroke that has been well maintained.

Thank you.

Hi Kyle,
I suggest you look at the pricing on www.nadaguides.com. It would appear the price range you are considering is good, but you have only given a very basic description of the truck, so my research may not be accurate.

For comparison, you could also check www.kbb.com.
Good luck. Beds can be replaced from the auto wrecker yard.

Thanks, Paul.
It appears to book in the 8k neighborhood in "fair" condition. Is there anything specific I should look for with the 7.3's in '97?
After looking at 97's to 99's in the 12k to 20k range I thought 7 or 8 wasn't too bad... even if it does need a new box.

Dont let the fact that the price is within your range blind you to your needs. You should know what you plan to do with the truck first. Little week end camper for the next 5 years or so? Or Fulltimer rig?
Knowing that the truck was (ob)used with a dump in the back would make me pause a long time.
